The Scene
At the edge of Pacific Heights and UCSF, this is an attractive location but is not within easy walking distance of popular tourist attractions such as Fisherman's Wharf or Union Square. For a tour of the city, guests will need to master Muni, the public transit system or rent some wheels.

The Details
Renovated in 1999, this Sixties hotel now has a slick modern decor. Geometric area rugs, tailored gray bedspreads, and decorator accent pillows in red, blue, and yellow suggest an upscale Ikea theme. More like studio apartments, rooms come with large desks, VCRs, CD players, and in most cases, kitchenettes. Guests can also choose between two double beds or one bed plus a mini-suite sofa setup. Downstairs, the hotel offers 24-hour coffee and tea, afternoon lemonade and cookies, and a video lending library. Even your pets are welcome here.
