Best little Yarn store in San Francisco!
by johannab12
Atelier Yarns is fabulous. The owner Grace, is a wonderful and incredibly knowledgeable teacher. I have taken several classes over the years here and have always learned extensively. For a little store, it packs a lot of yarn. The selection is terrific and organized well. Reading some other reviews, I have to say that all the yarns are priced and labeled with their pertinent information. I find the store easy to navigate and a pleasure to shop in. Go and enjoy!
- Pros: great selection and service!
Classes are fun, great way to learn...
by always_grubbin
I taught myself how to knit and needed some help learning more complex stitches...the internet can only take you so far. The classes were fun once they got started...just pray you don't get some frantic, panicky student in there, very annoying...but you Do get a lot of personalized attention and whenever you run into a snag the instructor will very patiently walk you through it. i learned how to make a hat in 2 classes, and a blanket in another.
the selection is pretty pricey but i think the classes are a reasonable price. if you want to take lessons, but don't want to make this the most expensive hobby ever, buy your supplies at Michael's.
($12 a ball of yarn???) If you're total newbie, then just buy your stuff there and don't worry about guessing what's what.
finally, if you are overcharged (which i was) don't let them give you a credit ticket, if you lose it than you LOSE the money...not happy about that at all.
Overall, i think this is place is great, especially since it's next to a couple of bars; sloppy drunk guys see a group of ladies knitting a yell out ..."heeeey, there's a housewives party in there!"
- Pros: fun place to learn, personalized
- Cons: kinda 'spensive
Beautiful Yarns, Great Service & Classes
by melinda2665
I love this beautiful store & wanted to write because I don't think some of the other reviews are fair. For one thing, they do have prices on almost everything now & the yarns are organized by gauge which makes whatever I'm looking for totally easy to find! If I need to find yarn to match a certain pattern, all the yarns that will work for it are next to each other & easy to locate. If I need to make a blanket or scarf super fast for a gift, I just go to the bulky yarn section. It's awesome & I can't imagine why someone would complain about it!
I also have to say that the classes are incredible! I started out a beginner 2 years ago & have taken almost every class they offer. I've made baby sweaters, hats, lacey scarves, cabled blankets and best of all 3 amazing sweaters! The teachers made it all easy & fun & I recommend this business very highly!!!
- Pros: Selection, Service, Location
- Cons: I wish it were bigger!
