What People Are Saying About Fillmore

In Short – As patrons gaze at the photos and posters lining the walls, they can practically surf on the sound waves emanating from the building's storied musical past. The site hosted a roller rink in the '40s, hippie freak-outs in the '60s and hard-core punk in the '80s. History aside, this midsize venue features three bar areas (spread between two floors), sparkling chandeliers, ruby curtains and a wooden dance floor.

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
The Fillmore often releases a handful of tickets for sold-out concerts a half-hour before show time. Get there early and take your chances.
Where to Sit:
Arrive way early to snag one of the few tables in the balcony or along the edge of the dance floor.
Parking:
Try the Japantown Center and Kabuki lots.
The Extras:
The Fillmore often gives away Red Delicious apples and--as reward for the sluggish shuffle through the cattle-herd exit--trippy posters commemorating the gig.

Avoid this venue

Do NOT patronize Live Nation or its Affliates!

I was absolutely humiliated at The Fillmore SF when I went to pick up my will call ticket for A Perfect Circle on Nov. 16th. My brother gave me a great birthday gift this year. Although it was a late present, he purchased a Meet and Greet ticket for me. When we realized the ticket had his name on it and was only able to picked up via will call, my brother called LiveNation to resolve the name issue. We were given specific instructions on how to address this problem. Live Nation said that I should take a copy of my brother's credit card and the print out of the Live Nation confirmation page to the venue on the night of the show to pick up the ticket. My brother even went as far as making a copy of his credit card, license, confirmation page, and confirmation email for me to take along as I flew from St. Louis, MO to San Francisco, CA for the show.

When the box office opened for the Meet and Greet ticket holders only, I was belittled as I presented all the information Live Nation instructed me to have. I was accused of stealing my brother's wallet and ticket information. As I explained the instructions given to me by my brother from Live Nation, the woman in the box office kept interrupting me, accusing me of nonsensical senerios. Her tone was not professional in the least bit. She was yelling at me as if I were an idiot for flying across the country in attempts to steal my brother's will call ticket. When I was not able to name the person my brother spoke to at Live Nation, she ended her accusations with calling me a liar. "Now you're lying to me. You're a liar! You don't need to lie," is what I had to endure since she held my ticket. I was afraid that she wouldn't let me retrieve the will call ticket if I stopped her from talking down to me and calling me a liar. So, I stood there while she yelled at me in front of everyone for no good reason. It was embarrassing, unprofessional, disrepectful and uncalled-for.

Unless you appreciate being called a liar and a thief by the woman running the box office, please spend your money with other venues.

Turn it up!

by MelSF , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

I have been to a few concerts at The Fillmore and I really enjoy the venue. No matter where you stand, you always have an amazing view. I find it to get a little bit sweaty/crowded downstairs, so if you like a more quiet and spacious area, watch the concerts from the balcony. They have tables and chairs and a bar up there. The best part about The Fillmore is you get a great poster from the concert after the show.

  • Pros: Bar, upstairs seating
  • Cons: Standing room only

If you enjoy live music, you HAVE to see a show here

by pprichard , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

The Fillmore is the best place to see live music in San Francisco. They get great bands and since the main floor is standing room only, you can get a good view from many different spots. There are two bars downstairs and two upstairs so you never have to fight for a drink. Food is offered upstairs and the neighborhood boasts several great restaurants. Did I mention the purple chandeliers and free apples? Don't leave early or you'll miss the famous Fillmore concert poster!

  • Pros: Great venue, great bands
  • Cons: Livenation fees - buy tix at the box office

Where history and music are one

by DougS123 at Citysearch

I've been the venue for a couple concerts. Each time I really enjoyed attending. I like the fact you can feel close to the performers no matter where you stand. Plus, you have your pick of a number of vantage points, whether on the floor or on the balcony. Since the place has pictures of past performers all over, I could get a sense of the historical relevance of The Fillmore as a music venue. I'm looking forward to next time I go.

  • Pros: Historical, personal
