Classic bistro fare with a twist, like mussels with green garlic, Pastis and preserved lemons.
Hated it!!!. Worst dining experience I have encountered in San Francisco. The wait staff is terrible. Especially the overweight bald waiter. He made the total experience a disaster.
Great Neighborhood Spot / Great Food!.
If there's a spot, I like to eat at the bar. Dining room is somewhat small and cramped. Don't know much about wait staff in dining room.
Food is great. Best bolognes in town. Great steak frites. Awsome hambuger ("Le Hamburger"), served open face on a grilled french bread, with grilled onions (other ingredients change peridodically).
Wine list is nice, and wines by the glass can also be ordered in 2.5 glass caraffs.
Bar gets filled with people waiting for a table at another restaurant a couple of doors down. I tell them that the food is better at Florio.
Great Steak Frits & Neighborhood bistro! Server? ..not so good. A great neighborhood bistro with charm! The host was very pleasant, as was the food (the salad was amazing and the steak frits were better than I have had in a while). The duck was just average. Now, our waiter on the other hand (mid forties, bald, glasses) was very unfriendly, did not tell us the specials and seemed almost put off we were there (note: we overheard him giving the specials to others next to us?). The poor service almost makes me not want to return to such an otherwise charming little place...
Unfriendly waiter.
Very impersonal service from one of the waiters. I don't remember his name but he was chubby, mid-forties, bald and with spectacles on. He did not offer the specials of the day although he "only" did to the table next to us because they were "regulars", he did not come back at any time to ask if everything was ok with the meal and after we paid the bill, there was never a thank you, have a good night nor a F*** You!!!
Besides that it was the worst cappucino ever...no kidding, the worst cappucino I've ever had in my whole life...having cappucinos all over the world! Oh and besides that the desert was the smallest portion of a chocolate tort I have ever seen...it was barely one bite....and a tiny little one...no kidding! I understand that it is not supposed to be a 1 pound desert but c'mon, that was outrageously ridiculous!!!!
Great Night on Fillmore. After having a great experience at Treat (accross the street), they recommended we try Florio for dinner. We got in for a 7:45 dinner and really had great time. We enjoyed good conversation with regulars at the bar while we waited for our table. We had the steak and frites for two and is was fabulous. I am glad we ventured to Fillmore on Saturday. We had such a great experience all around.
Intimate and charming brasserie that delivers an authentic and satisfying French/Italian dining experience..
This neighborhood gem draws an eclectic range of in-the-know customers, from Pacific Heights nuclear families tucked into the back banquette to gay couples dining at the bustling front bar. Tiled and hardwood floors, oxblood and chamois walls, milk glass light fixtures, and white-jacketed waiters darting in between closely packed tables build a Parisian effect. A seasonal menu highlights fresh ingredients and classic presentations.
Yeah, I agree about the bland food here. Good fries and okay physical plant. Nothing special here. Why go here? Well, the service is less indifferent than it is at Chez Nous, a couple doors down.
food is BLAND! i don't get it!.
we were happy to finally get to try florio and it was nothing but disappointing for us. everything looked so great when it showed up but most of the food was so lame we didn't finish any dish! (a better restaurant would notice all the food getting thrown away uneaten and either the chef or the waitstaff would at least ask what the deal was) the service was aloof and indifferent.
why would anyone go here when via veneto and cafe elite are just a couple of blocks away?
It can go either way here.
I live in the neighborhood and stop in regularly. Sometimes it's amazing, and I think, why go anywhere else? And other times nothing about the place clicks.
You have to pick your times and nights carefully. Best to go early when they first open or late, after the dinner rush.
It's not a bargain - prices are high, service can be sloppy, and the food is hit or miss.
My rule of thumb is if I can park within a block of the restaurant, chances are my experience will be good. But if I have to search for a parking space, well I've learned to avoid Florio at these times.
Great Place. This is such a comfortable upscale place. I have been many times and the only thing I wouldn't get is some stew that was only average. The bread is so good and it's a fun place to have a glass of wine.
