"For some time I had been thinking about opening a small cafe and bar where eating and drinking is not an event. In fact, a sort of 'anti-restaurant' without the high concept and relentless planning it takes to get a table at a big, downtown restaurant. I imagined a warm neighborhood place where poeple come and go before or after a movie or the theater, for instance. One should be able to eat in an hour yet stay for several with friends. Pretty simple food---crispy roast chicken, and good frites. A little (but not much) music playing on the stereo, a good bottle of Syrah and a decent smile from the server."

This neighborhood gem draws an eclectic range of in-the-know customers, from Pacific Heights nuclear families tucked into the back banquette to gay couples dining at the bustling front bar. Tiled and hardwood floors, oxblood and chamois walls, milk glass light fixtures, and white-jacketed waiters darting in between closely packed tables build a Parisian effect. A seasonal menu highlights fresh ingredients and classic presentations.

A great neighborhood bistro with charm! The host was very pleasant, as was the food (the salad was amazing and the steak frits were better than I have had in a while). The duck was just average. Now, our waiter on the other hand (mid forties, bald, glasses) was very unfriendly, did not tell us the specials and seemed almost put off we were there (note: we overheard him giving the specials to others next to us?). The poor service almost makes me not want to return to such an otherwise charming little place...

Very impersonal service from one of the waiters. I don't remember his name but he was chubby, mid-forties, bald and with spectacles on. He did not offer the specials of the day although he "only" did to the table next to us because they were "regulars", he did not come back at any time to ask if everything was ok with the meal and after we paid the bill, there was never a thank you, have a good night nor a F*** You!!! Besides that it was the worst cappucino ever...no kidding, the worst cappucino I've ever had in my whole life...having cappucinos all over the world! Oh and besides that the desert was the smallest portion of a chocolate tort I have ever seen...it was barely one bite....and a tiny little one...no kidding! I understand that it is not supposed to be a 1 pound desert but c'mon, that was outrageously ridiculous!!!!

After having a great experience at Treat (accross the street), they recommended we try Florio for dinner. We got in for a 7:45 dinner and really had great time. We enjoyed good conversation with regulars at the bar while we waited for our table. We had the steak and frites for two and is was fabulous. I am glad we ventured to Fillmore on Saturday. We had such a great experience all around.
