What a place!.
Hands down the worst Italian restaurant I have ever been to -
I'M KIDDING !! I just want to keep the crowds away and have it all to ourselves. It is THE BEST !!
Owner Gina and the super staff - her dad Jim, Andy, John, Dom, Juan, Joann, Arturo - are like family. Every night you see the same faces - regulars who feel at home asif in their own kitchen. The gnocchi/gorgonzola will convert every non-gnocchi eater ("too heavy" - not these!). Dom's cheesecake recipe reminds us of what they said about Fred Astaire - everyone else is dancing, Fred's doing something completely different. The wine list is good and fairly priced - in fact, so is the entire menu.
Don't change a thing!

The Best. Period.. I simply love this restaurant. The food is so fresh and wonderful and the staff are down to earth and friendly. I could go on and on, but it is best summed up by saying - I've never had better Italian food and I've been all over. I take all my friends and visitors here and they are now addicted, too. I almost don't want to write this so it doesn't get overcrowded or change!
Excellent Choice. Great restaurant, FANTASTIC service, great food! We ordered the special (noodles w/ sundried tomatoes and cream sauce) and tortellini stuffed with meat. Both were excellent!
Amazing small local gem!. I have been to Osteria many times, and have yet to be disappointed. Everything I have tasted has been absolutely phenominal, and the specials never cease to amaze! Also, the wine list is quite reasonable...I had a great wine one night, found it in the store the next day and it was marked up $2 from the in store price...Great Italian for reasonable prices, far removed from the overrated North Beach touristy fare.
A little known gem. I've been here many times, in fact it's the only place I go for Italian food. Never disapointed, actually, I meet my girlfriend there. Great food, warm atmosphere, it must be love. . . of the food!
Quality in all aspects.
Very tasty food done right.
The salads are wonderful, and I wish I could make salad dressing that tastes so well.
We split a pasta as a first - angel hair and tomatos, and had veal as a second.
On out cruise, we had good food and this place reminds me of that.
I have been there 3 times, and all three times happy.
Save room for dessert.
Get a reservation on weekend although they do try to accomodate you.
Editorial Review. Northern Italian menu's most popular dishes include gnocchi, veal with mushrooms and calamari. Wine and beer served.
LOVE these guys!. I don't normally write reviews but have to say that this is one of my SF faves. The owner is gracious and unassuming. The food is fantastic - always. I've never had better gnocchi and yet somehow you can always get a seat. All of this plus an elegant, white tablecloth, neighborhood appeal. You can't beat it!
My favorite restaurant in San Francisco.
The Chef is amazing. The food is always fresh, carefully selected, and the flavors of each dish fuse perfectly. This has been my favorite restaurant for 6 years and once you try it, you'll be hooked too.
I recommend everything, but my favorite items are the gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce, the house salad with pesto type dressing, artichoke stuffed with shrimp topped with pesto, caprese salad, their award winning calamari steaks, and just perfect angel hair pasta with tomatoe sauce.
The host is so nice and after a while they'll remember your names. Enjoy...
Best Gnocchi in the City. Osteria is the perfect neighborhood restaurant. The staff warmly greets each guest who comes in the door - not necessarily the typical response in Pacific Heights. The food is consistently delicious - great for the prices. The gnocchi, however, is the best part - its PERFECT consistency makes you wonder why it's so hard to make! Try the spinach salad, too - crushed peanuts, yum!
