I have been to a lot sushi restaurants.But never so enjoy and relax like Tokyo Sushi.The sushi is so freshest and the portion is so fulled,and the price is so great.The service is excellet.I been there as of my friend recommended.It is worth for everyone being tried.I couldn't waiting be back

I've been going to Isobune for years and am a regular there.
Sure I try out the fancy expensive places from time to time, but Isobune is still my regular haunt.
It's convenient (in the middle of San Francisco with underground validated parking)
it's fast (just grab the trays you want and what looks good to you off the boats that float by)
your get quick service if you do special orders,
and they have continuous service between lunch and dinner. (I'm often running late or early and miss the rigid lunch and dinner hours at many restaurants).
When I'm in a hurry I can be in and out of there in about 15 minutes and very satisfied.
The original owner died about 2 years ago and the son was running the place and not putting much energy into it. Now the daughter and her family are running things and really updating the place. I'm looking forward to a renaissance and a freshening up of the look and service.
I have no idea what the previous reviewer was talking about. I was just at Isobune yesterday and going back tonight if I have the time. No kim chee in sight - just good sushi. Yesterday I over ate my share of unagi hand rolls and other great nigiri. Repeat - no kim chee.
Gets a lot of business from tourists and locals. If you are a tourist, you have to go at least once. It's a lot of fun - my 5 year-old loves it.

I believe they were recently bought out and by the selection passing by, you would think you went into a Korean restaurant instead. Virtually 85% of the food passing by was prepared in some sort of way (not fresh) and there seemed to be a profusion of kim chee on everything too.
Enough is enough. I'm never going here again.
Love this place and great with kids. This place has always been so great for us and our two young kids -- our girls can sit still and love sushi so it works for us. They always dote on the girls and don't get upset when we leave our seats full of sticky rice. Most of the sushi is great, some of it maybe not as fresh as I'd like. Otherwise we love it.

not children friendly ,male host very rude!. Eight years ago this place was good, sushi was alright, on a slow day the sushi does not look very fresh, service was great very friendly host. I believe now this place is under new management I no longer see the familiar faces .most of the people there are not very friendly especially the male host very rude.. This is not a place for children the staff were not very accommodating, I want my nine month old daughter in a stroller between my husband and my self. The idiot male host told me to hold her on my lap. Now this was 5pm on a Saturday it was not busy yet. How am I suppose to eat? I walked out and will never step foot in this place again. ..Not suited for family with children.
simply do not understand why anyone would rate it above average :(. Happened to get into the city a little after lunch, so a lot of restaurants in the area were closed until dinner. Wandered around until I stumbled upon Isobune. Didn't think I could go wrong with a rotating/floating sushi bar. My god...it's been a while since I've had sushi this bad. The fish was not of high quality and did not seem fresh. At least half the selection was dried and crusted, looking like it had been going around for a couple of hours. Didn't see the chef take out any of the old dishes; he just stood there talking the whole time, not making any new sushi. Granted, it was during a slow time, but this would never happen in a real sushi bar (especially in Japan). Finished my 4 plates and got out of there. Service was almost non-existent. I've eaten in sushi restaurants in Japan, Hawaii, LA and NYC and this place was easily one of the worst.
LOOKED LIKE A LOT OF OLD FISH FLOATING AROUND THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DUMPED!. A CO-WORKER TURNED ME ON TO THS PLACE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. i WENT THERE TIMES AND IT WAS ALWAYS SO TASTY SO AFTER A YEAR i WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING AFTER WORK ON A FRIDAY (APRIL 13TH).I SHOULD HAVE WENT STRAIGHT HOME! THH HOSTESS WAS VERY GRACIOUS AND POURED THE SOY SAUCE AND GAVE US THE HOT MOIST TOWELS. THE FOOD WE PICKED ALL TASTED THE SAME WHICH WAS UNUSUAL... NOT HOW I REMEMBERED IT. THEN I ASKED FOR FRIED CALAMARI WHICH I KNOW I ORDERED BEFORE AND WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE THAT. THERE WAS A LOT OF CRUSTY OLD LOOKING PLATES BUT I TOOK THE NEW PLATES THEY PUT OUT. THEN AFTER ABOUT 4 PLATES AND PLENTY OF TEA I ORDERED DESSERT... GREEN TEA CHEESE CAKE WHICH WAS SO GOOD I ORDRED ANOTHER PIECE BEFORE WE LEFT. WELL AFTER THE SECOND BITE ON THE SECOND PIECE I LOOKED UP AND SAW A GOLDEN BROWN CRITTER WITH ANTENNAES AND ASKED MY COMPANION WHAT IT WAS AND HE TOLD ME WHAT IT WAS THEN HE INFORMED THE SUSHI GUY HE HAD A CRITTER ON THE WALL AND SUSHI GUY PROMPTLY TOOK A WET CLOTH AND GRABBED AND SMASHED IT. i DO NOT KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE SAW THIS BUT OF COURSE I LOST MY APPETITE AND WANTED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. THE WAITRESSES APLOLOGIZED OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND THEY WERE VERY GRACIOUS BUT I WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK THERE UNLESS....HMMM I CANNOT THINK OF ANY REASON WHY I WOULD EVER GO BACK. IT WAS SUCH A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE!
Average - not comparable to ones in Japan. The sushi is average - not really the choices I tend to go for. Prices are average too - not cheap but not terribly expensive. The seating is very limited - don't even try large groups. The ones in Japan are much better in flavor and freshness and ambience but Isobune is still a decent choice for the unique experience of floating sushi dishes.
