Obama story.
I saw a picture in the window of Mrs. Dewson with Obama, so I asked about it, and she looks at me all rude, and says “I don’t wanna talk about Obama.”
She claims she’s known Obama for “over 30 years”. Oh? You knew him back when he was in high school in Hawaii? Your story’s not checking out there, but nice try, biotch.
Mrs. Dewson is no lady!.
My husband is the superintendent building a store next to Mrs. Dewson's hat shop in S.F. on Fillmore street. He has never spoken to Mrs. Dewson. She has never spoken to him. He has many different people working for him on this job site. All of them are union subcontractors & employees.
One laborer in particular has truly impressed my husband. He is a hard worker & has told my husband his life story. My husband really likes the man. My husband is Caucasian & this employee happens to be African-American.
Today, the day after Obama was elected President, Mrs. Dewson had some colorful language for my husband & this man. My husband was standing in front of the construction/store site instructing his employee on what he would like for him to do. (My husband is never rude to his employees & treats everyone fairly. In fact, one day this particular laborer told my husband that it was a pleasure to work for him. Sadly another day my husband came home flabber gasted because this same hard working nice man started yelling at him. My husband asked him to leave. The man came back the next day asking my husband for his job back. He apologized & said that he had to "go get right with Jesus". My husband took this man back on the job.) Mrs. Dewson approached the two of them as she opened her store for business this a.m. She said (directed to the black man), "You don't have to work for this M***er F**ker anymore!" She continued to rant & rave about how things are going to change with a black president.
My husband was horrified. He could not believe what he heard. I am so angry with this woman. Who does she think she is? She is no lady & certainly not a Christian! Would she think it acceptable for me or my husband to curse at her? Would she sell us a hat even though we are white? She is a horrible person & completely misguided if she thinks that racism is acceptable.
Please do not shop Mrs. Dewson's Hats! She is confrontational & hostile.
Extremely unpleasant!. Mrs. Dewson is rude and unpleasant. Upon entering the store she does not welcome or provide any useful assistance. In addition to the rude service she does not welcome potential customers to try on hats. In my opinion I would not purchase anything from this store solely based on the horrible service. I'm amazed she is even able to stay in business.
Both women and men---even Mayor Willie Brown---top their noggins with the formal hats from this classic shop..
The Scene
Mrs. Dewson will greet you warmly, perhaps with an endearing "honey," and you should respectfully obey her signs to request help before trying anything on. She's bedecked the crowns of many a star, with the photo album to prove it, and will proudly show it off if you ask.
The Goods
Women and men desiring an elegant touch to a dressy outfit or a hipster addition to a shabby chic one may find the answer here. Wide-brimmed straw hats by Annabel Ingall or more flamboyant ones with gigantic embellishments could beg for attention at both church and the Kentucky Derby. For an edgier look, try newsboy caps, furry Kangol visors, or timeless classics, such as feather-topped Stetsons, felt porkpies, driving caps or berets. With Mrs. Dewson's patented, felt snap-brim fedora, named the "Willie Brim," you can even emulate the Mayor.
