Tips for Randall Museum

4.0
October 02, 2006

School kids learn natural history and adults take classes at this picturesque community center.. The Collection
Established in 1951 by San Francisco's first superintendent of recreation, Josephine Randall, this intimate facility is used by children and grown-ups to discover, learn and create. Nestled deep in the residential hillside of Corona Heights, the museum includes an art room, ceramics studio, greenhouse, live-animal exhibit, wood and metal shop and a sparkling 180-seat performing arts theater. Elementary students occupy the main museum on weekday mornings.

The Scene
Conservation and an appreciation for the environment are instilled in the students who visit Randall Museum. They are encouraged to care for the creatures in the live animal exhibit, practice recycling and restore the habitat. Organized cleanups of the surrounding hillside are a regular occurrence. The museum sits on 16 acres with a panoramic view of the western side of the city and San Francisco Bay.
