What People Are Saying About Notorious for Hair

In Short – This funky Castro salon's second-floor, apartment-like space is more bohemian than it is posh, with Hollywood-style lighted mirrors and glittered wall art. Pierced and tattooed stylists will get your head in ship-shape condition, whether that means adding hot pink chunks, twisting up dreads or prepping wigs for drag divas. Patrons often stop in to replenish their stock of hair products, which include MOP and Redken lines.

Best Haircut Ever

This was the best haircut I have ever recieved since moving to San Francisco in '99. Ten years later I finally got an INCREDIBLE haircut from CJ, the manager of this salon. I am definitely coming back again. She was very professional and helped me find a look that really worked. I found my new stylist and salon!
great job!

Miguel is great. I have curly hair which is difficult to cut, & Miguel did exactly what I wanted. He spent a lot of time on me and made me feel like a VIP customer. I love my hair!
If trendy is what you want, stay away from here!!!

If you want a trendy style this is NOT the place to go! I came in expecting to get one thing and came out with something i didn't want - at a very steep price. First, we tried to bleach the color out of my hair - didn't lift. Not stylist's fault. I have black hair and wanted to go back to something not so stark. We all know that NOTHING can cover over black hair, but she tried putting a red rinse over it. Nice. Now i have RED ROOTS and black hair. The cut took the cake though. I told her to cut it ALL OFF - we are talking extremely short spiky hair or a short bob. She wouldn't listen. She took off about 5" then layered it and it looked sort of ok in the shop. Later she disclosed that she felt too short of hair would be like a little old lady cut. WHAT? Frankly, I think she couldn't do the cut. I plan on coming back to attempt to retrieve all of at least part of the $140(!!!) I was charged. I ended up at Oxenrose today. Got a cut by Brian - EXCELLENT. I highly recommend him. This place however, leave it alone.
Miquel Rocks!!!

Miguel is the best. I have difficult stiff blond hair and he is the only person in years that can make it look great without scissor marks. Also, even though the salon is in the Castro and I am a conservative finance guy, I am very comfortable and like the people in the salon.
- Pros: master of hair, mine is difficult
- Cons: more expensive than i normally do, but worth it
very offensive-make sure you have the right "type" of hair
by heatheredmonds at Citysearch
I just called this salon because I was excited about getting my first haircut and I spoke with someone briefly that told me that he "does not deal with my type of hair" but that I could call back tomorrow to see if Chris does. I felt that to be rude and offensive. He was not polite in the least. I, being a woman of color felt very discriminated against and from your website I thought I had found an open, fun and inviting atmosphere but I guess not. I will never attempt to contact this place again for any services.
