Fantastic Bar during Castro Street Festival. I was in San Francisco Sept 25-Oct 5, 2009. I had a great time and 440 was a frequent stop. I met lots of great new friends and, overall, enjoyed each visit to the 440.

Some of the friendliest staff to be found. An added bonus is that most of them are damned hot. Great drinks and a good value. Friendly customers and it is easy to strike up a conversation.
Great location in the heart of the Castro. Lots of regulars stop in, but also a lot of tourists. The staff is great at making tourists feel welcome.
Totally different atmosphere during the day than at night. Nighttime can bring a crowded bar with a great mix of people. Daytime is much quieter with a lot more chatting between the regulars and staff.…
