The MIX bar.. I agree with another comment on City search as a couple of the bartenders ( female) at the "MIX" can be quite rude on occasions. Most of the local clientele there are also rude and very "cliquish"... It is, however, a good place to meet friends and have a few drinks and in my case since I smoke, they have a great patio for this. I would also recommend that the owner fix most of the patio bar stools as they are quite unstable. Update as of June 25th, 09. The bar stools have been fixed and recovered. They look nice.
ONE OF THE BEST BARS IN THE CASTRO!. Many a place in the Castro leaves me feeling unwelcomed. This is not the case at MIX! The staff was very welcoming, helpful and F-U-N! I have to say MIX is by far one of my favorite locales in the SF area. Cheers to you!
Best Gay Bar in Castro.
This is the best gay bar in Castro. The bartenders are awesome. The place is often crowded, but it adds to its charm.
You don't have to be gay to go there and there's a lot of diversity. I love it. Been going there for about 2 years with my friends and we always have a good time.
Good place to find a mix of people and some chill, fun times. Been including this place on my list of good places to go out for the last two years and have enjoyed the service of the bartenders, the social atmosphere created by the chill, cool patrons, and even play a song or two on the jukebox or play a game of pool to spice it up. A fun place to check out for sure.
Excellent service.
I do not agree with a previous review. I find all the bartenders friendly. There is a large crowd and maybe the rush stops a lot of bar conversation. I have never found it so. A large number of ladies comes in after work in the front area and are very friendly and considerate.
They have a happy hour and the prices are realistic. A lot of pool table activity and an unusual juke box that seems to play anything you choose.
What happened to the cool bartenders?. I used to love this place, especially when it switched from 'Uncle Berts' to 'The Mix'. but recently, they've added some bartenders that think they're god's gift and they aren't even that friendly. We were there recently and the young, butchy girl on the patio gave attitude everytime we ordered something. look, you're really not that hot, ok? it's a bummer because now we've been looking elsewhere for a cool, inviting place to go.
Hot Bartenders and Friendly People. Of all the places I visited in SF, this was my favorite.
A gay bar with a bustling patio, laid-back attitude and unpretentious patrons..
The Scene
The crowd is a mixed bag of gays and lesbians meeting up, throwing back some pitchers or cocktails, and picking out their favorite pop songs off the Internet jukebox. The low-ceilinged front room looks and feels like a traditional bar with a pool table, but the open-air back patio (with a second bar and bench seating) is where this watering hole's true charm is revealed.
The Draw
Mix gets hopping during after-work happy hour, and when the patio grill fires up (Friday evenings, weekend afternoons). Menu items include burger and fries for $5, and corn dogs for $2. This is one of the few Castro neighborhood bars that gets tented in the winter, so it's a smoker's heaven year-round.
The new Hot Spot. Whether you're tweeked out on a monday afternoon or want to watch the game on Friday -- Uncle Bert's is the best kept proto-hipster secret in the Castro. It's like family, but everyone is welcome -- as long as they're not refugees from the sweater bar. No faint of hearts!
