The vast expanse of glass at a prime location at Market and Castro provides incredible views of the comings and goings in the Castro. Also a great place to meet friends if you want to be able to hold a conversation with them - the din in the bar is never overwhelming. Drinks are good, but not an incredible value. Staff is friendly and welcoming - sometimes even hot. Great jukebox allowing you to play whatever music appeals to you. As with most SF bars, it isn't terribly large, so it doesn't take a huge amount of people to make the bar uncomfortably full. The upstairs is a nice place to get away from some of the crowd, but it can be very warm up there and difficult to get back through the bar to leave.

The Glass Coffin, a.k.a. Twin Peaks, attracts a much older crowd and their younger admirers. It's well-lit, with a quiet, likeable atmosphere. The drinks are a little on the smallish side, but the potables are provided by a friendly (and sometimes hot) bartender. With lots of tables and chairs, it's not a standing-room-only type of bar, and it has an upstairs area for more secluded talks with a friend. Not much of a place to go alone, but the regulars and friendly patrons have a way of making you feel decent in an area known for pickup bars.

Pros: Quiet, pleasant ambiance, well-lit

Cons: It's definitely more of a senior crowd, but that's it's schtick.
