view & uploadBest Pizza in SF. Best sauce in the city! It is all about the sauce! From a native Bostonian, this pizza is worthy of the East Coast.
Good Pizza.
I've been going to this place for years and they make good pizza. Parking is a B* but I'm willing to drive around looking for a spot to get their pizza. The kids love it too and is one of their favorites, if you're not sure try to wait for a fresh pie to come out or definitely have it heated. I've had slices that were not so good because I didn't request they be heated because the person helping me said they were warm. Never had delivery so can't comment on that.
REMEMBER THIS IS NOT NYC!!!! This is not NYC pizza, we don't live in NYC and if you go here thinking you're gonna get a slice like it came from Ray's or Grimaldi's it ain't gonna happen. So all you crybaby transplants from NY who excel at whining about CA, NY pizza, and NY cheap prices, and how things are not like NYC. PLEASE MOVE BACK AND OPEN A WHINERY!
The real deal.
San Francisco is not New York. Short of a trip to NYC this is as good as it gets in the entire Bay Area.
The slices are large (NY style), the crust is thin and tasty. Occasionally too much cheese is applied (typical West Coast nonsense), the sauce is tangy, and it is not too greasy. Yes, you can fold the slice, and no it does not always stay rigid (a key requirement if in NYC). Don't ask me about their thick crust pizza... Chicato style is not of interest to me.
Their prices are competitive... Oh, you can get it cheaper in NY or NJ? OK, pick me up a slice next time you are there, and while you are at it how about some pastrami, and pickles, and bagels, and canolli?
Best Pizza in SF. Marcello's has the best pizza in the city, bar none. Their thin crust pizza is amazing and the slices are huge for $2-$3. The sauce is extra flavorful and delicious and the pizza crust is light and flaky. They also have some great combo slices - the potato and cheddar cheese is my favorite.
TERRIBLE!. i don't understand the ratings/reviews here at all. my only guess is that they come from clueless people who have never left california and/or tasted real pizza. this pizza is dry and bland, and the cheese is cheap and terrible. if you must subject yourself to this torture, don't do it delivery--it will take them over an hour to get you your pizza if you live 5 minutes away.
Home-style pizza in the heart of the Castro..
In Short
With lightly sponged copper-colored walls, sculpted metal counters, funky lighting fixtures and a high ceiling topped with a huge skylight, the atmosphere at Marcello's is bright and clean. Thin-crust pies with a slightly spicy sauce and cheese are available until the wee hours.
10++++.
In response to the bad service and snotty owner, you must have been at the wrong place!!!!! Marcellos is still the best pizza around, I live in LA and Crave it! I do wish that Anne would send me a pizza. Marcellos Rocks!!!!
Best Pizza in town The owners are the coolest. A recommended stop in any vacation.
Best in SF? Doesn't say much for SF.. A couple of friends told me to check this place out. On my second bite of the thin crust, the cheese slid off in a sheet. So, the mostly flavorless sauce didn't even add any adhesiveness. So, i tried the thick crust. It was fluffy, like a cake, only no sugar. Actually, it was like someone vaguely tomator flavored glue and some cheese on top of a kitchen sponge and heated that. It looked like New York pizza, but sure didn't taste like it.
best pizza in SF?. Marcello's pizza is big, sloppy, and delicious in all of its New York-esque goodness. I've eaten both at the restaurant and had their food delivered. Each time, the pie was great. Definitely one of the best pizza joints in town.
