Delicious and Authentic Indian Food
by Sumswirls , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch
Bombay Indian has been in this location for quite some time and when I look around and see all of the restaurants that have open and closed, it makes me happy to know that Bombay Indian has remained.
Located in one of my favorite walking areas of the city, Bombay Indian is a great option for lunch or dinner. They have a great Indian Buffet at lunch for just $7.95, loaded with delicious, fresh and traditional Indian dishes. For dinner, they have a huge menu of selections that appeals to all types- vegetarian, spicy, or hearty. One of my personal favorites in the Chicken or Lamb Vindaloo. I also love Bombay Indian's Naan... Light, fresh, and a perfect compliment to every dish.
- Pros: A great option for the Opera, Ballet, or Best of Broadway
Excellent Indian Buffet

What an amazing lunch I just had. The buffet is filled with hot, fresh food, with a great selection of meat, chicken and vegetarian dishes. The also offer wonderful selection of condiments and sauces to accompany each dish.
The service was great and the price is right!
- Pros: Beautiful interior, fantastic food

The Okra was sooo good! The sauce was delicious with a perfect spicy bite. Also had the samosas , lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. All were very delicious. I had it as take out, but I will definitely try dine-in.
Serving spinach during E.coli scare and rude and ignorant when customers asks about this
by dw8888 at Citysearch
A friend and I went to this restaurant for dinner. I remember not thinking the food was very good lasttime I went but I thought I would give it another chance. Well, we were served spinach during the E.coli scare. My date politley told the waiter that spinach has been pulled by the shelves because of the E.coli scare and that almost 100 people have died. The waiter LITERALLY told us that there is NO E.coli scare and if there was, the spinach is fresh(fresh spinach is the worst for transmitting E.coli! - you can't wash it off!). My date proceeded to tell him that spinach has been pulled from the shelves and that he should tell the cooks. He disrespectfully laughed at my date like he was an idiot and LITERALLY said "ya ya ya" and walked away!! It is a real lack of respect to the customer to serve spinach during a national E.coli scare because you are too worried about how much $$ you would lose throwing it out and also ignorant(it is on tv and in the newspapers) to put people in the SF community in possible harms way. Think of what else they might do in the kichen to save $ that might be harmful to the customer? At the end, the waiter charged us and made us pay for the spinach dish whether we wanted to eat it or not due to fears of E.Coli! I told the waiter that I am never coming back to this restaurant because I told him that I don't think we have been treated right. The waiter sent the water person to wait on us the rest of the time we were there in response to this.
On a side note, when we first ordered our food before the above happened, I asked for garlic naan as opposed to plain naan that came with my particular dish, the waiter told me "no, I can not do this" even though I was willing to pay more. I ended up ordering vegetable yellow curry and it literally tasted like it came from a can (and then I remembered why I stopped coming to this place-there are so many great Indian restaurants in SF that serve great food, why go here?)
- Cons: Food, Service, Uses Fresh Spinach during E.Coli Scare
