How is this place still open?. The bartenders are extremely slow and inattentive. Drinks and food are completely overpriced. Kitchen is slow... considering the place was completely empty. Don't bother!

I lucked out and slid into Mecca with a party of two on a Saturday evening. The first table they seated us at displeased me, but they were more than happy to move me to a more suitable table. The food and service were solid, but I couldn't help but feel like the menu was too limited...just not enough choices. It seems like the chef went a bit too minimalist.
The minimalism worked well for the restaurant's decor. A large centrally located oval bar is the restaurant's anchor, and it works well. Exposed air ducts and piping give the eatery a hip industrial feel while keeping it's upscale appeal.
Not worth it. I went for brunch with friends....none of us are interested in going back. Too bad...I use to love this place. My food was cold...I sent it back and just the plate came back burning hot....my food was still the same on the inside.
Great Bar Scene. My friends took me out for a fun Birthday happy hour at the end of a crazy week and we had the best time! The cocktails are super tasty and the bar staff was great; they really made me feel special on my bday! I highly recommend the Orange Blossom. This place really draws a crowd, by 8pm the place was packed. I love that they place old movies on their big screen. The only thing I guess I didn't like was the music got kind of loud every now and then. We decided to stay for dinner and I enjoyed the food almost as much as my Orange Blossom. I had the Tuna Tartar and the Grilled Lamb Lollipops. I will come back just to have the Tuna Tartar. To top it off Tiffany from the first season of Top Chef was there, I am a huge fan. I didn't know this place was such a big deal.

Small groups listening to worldly lounge grooves sip sugar-rimmed gimlets at the center bar. Shimmering candelabras, a crimson color scheme and expert lighting allow the well-heeled crowd to look their best. Black-and-white movies flash on a screen above the decorative piano, while affable waitstaff explain the menu's seasonal highlights in delicious detail.
Chef Randy Lewis relocated to the Bay after redefining modern Southern cuisine in New Orlean. The change of scenery influences the menu at Mecca, where diners are treated to inventive fare. The grilled flatbread is a superb starter: Crisp strips of savory jamon Serrano rest atop a sweet membrillo (quince paste). A tried-and-true char-grilled filet mignon, prepared perfectly medium pink, is as good as that from a fine SF steakhouse. However, there are more unique dishes that will delight, including the tuna crusted with panko (Japanese breadcrumbs), which is bolstered by a vinegar-and-bing-cherry reduction and cushioned by mushroom-spinach risotto.
Hits: This romantic restaurant is great for impressing a love interest, plus the ample portions will leave everyone satisfied.
Misses: The tables beneath the front window are spaced too close to one another. Privacy requires a request for a back booth.
Avoid for now.
The menu had a mere 4 entrees. We were told the chef had quit and a new chef was working on the menu. Everything was pure salt or overly sweet. The Fillet Mignon requested medium was at best well done and dry. Creamed spinach was more like spinach in salty butter. Ribs so vinegary they were inedible.
Our servers description of the special of the night, scallops was " they aren't slimy " like they're usually prepared ! Ughh.
This place can't make up it's mind what it wants to be. Sorry can't recommend this restaurant.
Best Happy Hour in the City. Amazing meal! Fantastic restaurant! Three words: FOIS. GRAS. TACOS. okay, three more words: MINI. SLIDERS. ROCK. I have to go to more words than just three to describe the fabulousness that is Mecca. They have this amazing round bar where you can see everything that goes on in the restaurant at all times, and it's a beautiful scene to behold. They do a prix-fix menu every night of the week (and it changes every night too) for only $30 you get three courses of yummy soul food. So when happy hour ends at 7, and I guess i should go into why it's the best happy hour: $1 oysters, $2 sliders, and these indulgent fois gras tacos plus drink specials, you can stay and have a great dinner at one of their romantic booths. Great service, too. Attentive staff and the wine lists' divine.

Had dinner here recently, party of two, wanted a wonderful date-type of evening. It was the third time in perhaps 4 years for myself. The circular bar is always novel and perhaps their best environment; it tends to have great bartenders.
The extremely darkly lit dining areas were being attended by rather inexperienced waiters. The place was nearly empty at 7-8pm on a beautiful weekend. The two of us ran a bill of $200 and yet experienced desultory, vacant service. The cod entree was pallid and boring, the salmon absolutely nothing unusual at all. And believe it or not, they totally forgot our raw oysters appetizer order.... with subsequent and inappropriate attempts to cure the problem by attempting to serve the plate quite later during our entree and then by lower management offering a sorbet intermezzo. Not much has changed here, the food is not very smart regardless of the supposed hoopla chef, the service unengaged and clueless while the bar is a quiet and pleasant experience. And they totally ignore their bathrooms, ugh. It?s a place slowly on the way down.
Chic Catro Hot Spot.
Mecca is chic, stylish and the food is cutting edge. Just last night I had foie gras tacos. Yes, crazy, i know, but absolutely phenominal. .. served with a strawberry salsa and cilantro. To die for.
I love this spot. Its always dependable, the food is always amazing and the drinks are always perfectly concocted.
Oh and for the short of budget, they just created a realllllllllllllly reasonably priced bar menu (which includes $2 mini burgers and the staple $1 oysters during happy hour)
HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!. What a great spot!!!!!!!! Having just moved to town from Chicago, I was looking for a place with great ambiance as well as five-star food...not always easy to find. Luckily someone recommended Mecca and I was glad they had valet. Three of us were seated promptly and our drinks appeared as if by magic after just a few minutes (I recommend the Lychee Daquiri--packs a wollop but goes down smoothly. Although the name is misleading; it's more of a martini). Things got better from there, I must say the food is the best I've had in San Francisco so far. I'll definitely be back! I also enjoyed chatting with the attractive waitstaff...
