The Scene – Two island bars run the length of this high-ceilinged space, separated by a narrow walkway. After-work dates sit at stools lining either bars and larger parties take refuge at bordering tables and wooden booths. The weathered-wood floors and old-time art--black-and-white photos, colorful paintings of yesteryear's sport heroes--give the place a vintage vibe. TVs flashing ESPN keep things current. – – The Draw – Royal Exchange sits on prime real estate. It's a popular lunch spot, as well as post-work drink destination for predominately 30-something…

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
Royal Exchange is open Mon-Fri, and reserved for private parties on weekends.
Where to Sit:
Beneath exposed-brick walls, a handful of booths in the back offer the most secluded seating in the joint. Don't try to squeeze more than two people into the tiny booths on the north side of the bar.
Know Before You Go:
The bar often closes early on slower nights.
Parking:
Metered spaces often become available in the early evening. Otherwise, the Embarcadero lot is located across the street (Front and Sacramento Street).

Nom-tacular bar food

by Casi C , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

I came here for a party to celebrate the awesome-ness that WAS the World Cup. Everyone was decked out in their favorite team colors and we all cheersed with our Bicardi drinks. Some nom-tacular munchies were laid out for us such as hot wings, sliders, and chicken skewers. The place is the perfect size....not too big, not too small. The service was great, even as the bar began to get more and more packed. I'm a happy camper with this spot, and since it is so close to my work I'm sure I will be back!

Great Beer and Food Selection

by NWaters at Citysearch

This was cool place to come and eat lunch though it would be great for dinner and of course sporting events I saw at least 15 TV's!

They have super salads and my boyfriend really liked his burger. They have unique booths to dine in, and a lot of counters to sit at if you like to eat at the bar. You can see a TV from most of the tables.

Overall was a great place for many different occasions and good food always makes you feel good.

  • Pros: Delicious Salads & Burgers & Beer

A great bar in the financial district. I have a great time every time I am there... lots of bars nearby.

  • Pros: Example: best croissants in town
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Remember ! ! ! Its ROYAL .....

Royal Exchange is open Mon-Fri, and reserved for private parties on weekends and often closes early on slower nights. This place is great to stop in for a burger and a beer for lunch. if you are going after work for happy hour, prepare to stand or get their early to secure a table. Ladies, tis true...there are way more men in here than there are women. However, it is a fine place to have a burger at lunch during the week.
