Editorial Review for Globe Restaurant – by Daniel Liszt

The Scene
Hanging lamps and two sky lights illuminate the airy dining room. A steel bar near the entrance is festooned with fresh flowers. Further back, large canvases, including one depicting a railroad-crossing sign, decorate brick walls. A partially exposed kitchen lets the well-dressed, 30-something clientele peek at their food being prepared. There's also a downstairs nook providing semi-private dining for parties of up to 20.

The Food
Generous portions of satisfying Cal cuisine are offered for lunch and dinner. Fish dishes are most consistent. Start with tuna tartar, complimented by a black olive tampenade that can be spread on spongy bread. Another tasty appetizer is the romaine and sieved-egg salad that gets a zing from anchovy vinaigrette. The broth hugging the grilled lamp chop is acidic, but the king salmon resting on a bed of long boccacino noodles is given a pleasant kick from salsa verde.

After viewing a few blogs at first on citysearch, after a strong recommendation from a dear friend of mine who works in the restaurant industry, I was afraid to try Globe. Wow I am so glad I had gone with my friend’s recommendation. My husband and I tried Globe on Saturday evening. Where do I start, we came in with open hearts and empty belly’s. We are both very picky about our food. After being seated my husband and I noticed all the yummy food and dishes around the room. We couldn’t help but notice the globe signature dish the “Steak for two.” The entrée came as a meal for two people which included a side potato dish and caramelized onions along with tons of perfectly cook steak! As we both also noticed the house made Mac and Cheese we also added this side on to our meal. Can you say WOW?!?! The meal was unbelievable. Not only was the food outstanding but the wine list was incredible! Our service was outstanding and honestly the dinner was completely flawless! I HIGHLY recommend Globe to anyone interested in a evening of wining and dinning with a significant love one or maybe even for a power business dinner.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

I joined just to write about an absolutely terrible experience here.... The restaurant was half empty but it still took an hour for the food to show up. I mentioned to our waiter that dinner hadn't gone so well. His excuse was that someone had tried to run out on the bill and that he had to chase him down. While that's terrible, I'm just not sure how that adds 40 minutes of prep time to my dinner... 1 star for decent food and only 1 star for terrible customer service. Globe, thank you for ruining my evening. I will be steering clear of you and Mr. Manzare's other creations from now on.

Pros: Food

Cons: Terrible waiter, lame excuses, lack of respect for the customer
