Working with the 600-year old Japanese theater forms of Noh and Kyogen, of Yugen is one of the few companies in the United States that fuses Japanese dramatic techniques and aesthetics with Western classical and contemporary theater. The company was founded by Yuriko Doi in 1978 and has featured original productions and themes, including a concept piece based on the poet Federico Garcia Lorca's work that fused Noh and Flamenco art forms.
