Really sad and dissapointed. She was nice and confident , I asked for bangs and trimming , after 20 min,cut look great , but she kept cutting until it ended up too short on the top layers, front and sides ,tho looked acceptable once she styled it. Didn't say anything cuz I thought I 'll able to fix later ..When I came out of the salon, was raining, hair got wet ,as soon as the styling wore off , hair looked like Rod Stewart's (puffy on top and sides ) I shampooed and style it but no help and there was no cutting it more, it'd only get worse. Got it braided (plus $$) in the hopes of hair growing ...after two months took braids off...cut still looks terrible ,top and side layers are still too short and gives me the 80's puffy hair look , I iron and looks uneven on the sides.

Laurel is a Hair Goddess. Laurel is the most amazing hair stylist I have ever let touch my hair. I walk out of the salon feeling like a better, more beautiful me! I now have all of my friends going to her and WOW what a difference she has made on everyones life!!! Her upbeat personality, honesty about style and hair and her genuine approach to people makes her one in a million!

User review by shead23. As a woman with prematurely grey and naturally curly hair, finding Hairplay was a godsend. Erin has been coloring and cutting my hair every 3 weeks for the past 5 years. She is not only incredibly fast, but accurate. Shes pushed me to try new styles and has always succeeded in making me look like a million bucks when I leave the salon. Her highlights are fantastic and it never ceases to fail that I am asked out within a day of seeing her. The salon itself is very hip and mellow. There are no divas and no stylist would ever let you leave the salon with anything unflattering like those mullets that were so recently popular.

Stop playing and just do my hair right.. I've tried virtually every high-end salon in SanFrancisco. Admittedly, I didn't see the man, but I believe salons are only as good as their staff stylists. For who will you visit when the primary is sick?

Decor is nothing special. No pampering, just a table full of magazines as any Supercuts provides. My appointment was for cut and color. My color was adequate. It didn't make me swoon "I love it!" (don't you love saying that?!)

As for my cut, I brought in pictures, went into detail about how I wanted romantic layers... Instead I got a mod, tapered cut looking nothing like my pictures.

Bottom line, they're adequate. But is adequate enough? Perhaps somewhere else, but in SF where there are so many fabulous salons, Hairplay is not good enough to boast this price list. For the same price, go anywhere on MaidenLane - they'll at least be attentive.

Not good. i got both a bad cut and bad color at this salon. i tried a second stylist and it still wasn't great -- premium prices for second-rate services. not all the stylists should be doing color. i tried the salon in part based on good citysearch reviews, but i can't recommend it.

The best haircut I've ever had.... I have found the hair stylist I have been looking for my whole life! Laurel Berg has worked wonders with my lifeless, straight, dark hair. If only I had found her years ago...who knows where I'd be in life!

Not worth the money. I went to Hairplay based on "best value" recommendations but the hairstylist couldn't follow directions. I even gave her the benefit of the doubt and returned (with a photo!) to give her a chance to fix the cut only to have a shorter version of the same cut -- one I did not want. This stylist at least needs a lot more training. There is no savings if you have to turn around and go somewhere else to get your hair re-cut.

Second that Matt Works Wonders. Matt is the best hairdresser that I have been to. He took my curly frizzy head and transformed it. He is a modern day wonder. My hair is now stylish, manageable and looks great with minimal care". I am so glad that my friend referred me to him. He is now stuck with me for life! He also taught me style my hair and additionally is a wonderful colorist.

Unlike many hairstylists who are intent on pushing products, Matt is genuinely interested in hair and his clients - a rare find!

Go see Erin!. I'd been going to Grasshopper for a few years and loved my stylist there, I just felt like I needed to take a break and then I found Erin at HAIR PLAY. Sure she's not AS fun and the atmosphere is not AS hip, but she gives me the BEST haircuts I've EVER had. My hair just lays right and I can just blow it dry, spritz it, and walk out the door. Not alot of greasy product to mess with. And she just did highlights, too, and they're fabulous! Go see Erin, you won't be sorry!

Matthew worked wonders!. Matthew Mommer is incredible! He's the only stylist that's helped me grow out my hair after 10 years of short hair! I love the change! I've gone three months without a cut (keep in mind I'm still growing it out) and it still looks amazing. I can say enough good things!
