The Scene
On foggy nights, Doc's sign stands out like a lighthouse in a storm. It's quite possibly the coolest bar sign of all time. Inside, pink neon lights and candles add to the slightly divey, laidback atmosphere. Even when it's crowded (often), Doc's feels sedate. It's the ultimate low-key joint; the perfect place for a casual drink and quiet conversation. The crowd consists of Mission hipsters and seasoned veterans of the bar scene.
The Draw
The staff is friendly but not in your face, rarely straying past "what can I get you?" Mixed drinks are strong enough to knock a horse down, so treat yourself and order top shelf. Be bold--explore the back area, where the people-watching gets more intense.

mission staple turned kick back lounge with shuffleball. everything from olympia to chimay.. and ofcourse a cold anchor steam. gets a lil crowded late into the night, but overall a great place to meet up & hang out.

So I walked into this bar when I moved into the Mission and I immediately felt at home. I've spent lots of nights (tonight actually) just chilling, reading my book, talking with the regulars (I am one at this point), playing shuffleboard and enjoying their happy hour, which is one of the most generous in the city. Both of the Carries are rocking bartenders, and the music on the juke ain't too bad, most of the time. Definitely my local pub nowadays, even though I moved a little further away now. The crowd fluctuates between old-school Mission types, hipsters, party people, et. al. Anyone can feel at home here; it's just got the vibe, and the coolest f*cking bar sign *ever*. If you get hungry, there is a great taco place right across the Street. Mission at 22nd, come get some medicine.

This place is NOT SAFE. The bartender here, "Antonio," tried to pick a fight with a friend of mine here, literally standing outside the doorway, shouting at him to come outside so he could BEAT HIM UP. The bouncer stood at the doorway and did nothing to help. The owner of the bar was even present, and did nothing other than to give the bartender a "time out." The bartender still works there. None of us felt particularly safe at this place. Avoid it.
