In Short
The coffee is so strong you could cut it with a knife--and at this no-frills local stalwart, straight up is way more popular than any complicated barista coffee concoction. Regulars tend to linger, reading the paper and talking over steaming mugs and pastries. Low prices and a broken-in ambiance keep the wobbly chairs pretty full, but the crowd is neither intimidating or exclusive--just honest, caffeinated and wide-eyed.

This is the first time I have been at Muddy Waters and used my laptop. I have had coffee here and once tried to use my Palm Pilot on wifi and did not have much luck. Today, I camped here with a cup of coffee and it worked out great. The connection is great and they have lots of seats with plugs. The coffee is great though most basic house coffee is pretty okay everywhere. It is a beautiful day outside and I have been here a couple of hours. The traffic here fluctuates and so does the noise level but the noise blends with the boombox music and very easy to block out. I had a productive time and shall return if in the area.

A low-key neighborhood hangout place. If I lived in this neighborhood, I would definitely be here frequently. Good coffee, the food is alright, friendly service.

This is a San Francisco staple. Easily the best cup of coffee I've found in this city. Unfortuantely the food is not so hot and fairly typical. Bagels and pasteries. It's perfect for a quick jolt in the morning ('Muddy' is definately an apt description) but if you're interested in more than a great cup of coffe go elsewhere.
