Good place but rude parents.
Progressive Grounds is lovely--and the staff is kind--but some of the parents who come in with children are incredibly rude.
Imagine walking into a room of people working quietly ... and leaving your children to run loose ... without even a token statement about respect for others. At Progressive Grounds today the only parenting by an offending mother was to scream "Toby", the child's name, every few minutes.
Unbelievable.
Immediately afterwards, another woman read a children's book at FULL volume ... with sound effects...until her own children made her stop.
Every other person in the room was working and even taking calls outside. This form of parenting in public space feels to strangers like the mother is actually rearing the child to have no regard for others.
Un-be-liev-able.
Good Breakfast, Great Patio. I am moving to Bernal Heights in the coming weeks and am excited that I have already found my new go-to place for coffee/breakfast. At first, Progressive Grounds just looked like every other coffee place in the city. But then, I realized that it keeps going until you reach this great little patio. Perfect in sunny Bernal for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Light bites and java drinks cater to Bernal Heights caffeine junkies..
In Short
Moms with strollers and neighborhood locals line up for grilled lavash wraps, fresh-baked pastries, coffee drinks and fresh fruit smoothies. Scoops are dished up from the front counter, which offers eight varieties of Mitchell's ice cream. A hallway leads to a quieter back room, where patrons work away on laptops or read. The sunny, verdant patio fills up fast on sunny days.
