What People Are Saying About Jay's Cheese Steak

In Short – Expressionist artwork and a snappy bright-yellow decor pull in Mission locals to this low-key eatery. The meaty sandwiches are sloppy in the good old-fashioned cheesesteak way, and come slathered in onions, mushrooms, and green or red peppers. Niman ranch beef helps the meat variety top the list, but several flavorful meat-free options keep vegetarians coming back for more.

Jay makes some serious cheesesteaks. I usually get the pepper and have never been disappointed. They've got something for everyone...even veggies. I've been wanting to try one of the seitan sandwiches, but with a cheesesteak that good I don't think it's gonna happen.
- Pros: Good , Cheap , Fast
- Cons: ??????
YUM!

Jay's has great sandwiches -- I'm a veggie, and love their veggie cheesesteaks. But even better is the Avocado and Cheddar - maybe the best sandwich I've ever had! My meat-eating companion also gives very high marks to the regular cheesesteak. Garlic fries are great too. However, if you want to change any ingredients on your sandwich, it seems unlikely that you'll get it 'as ordered.' Every time I've tried to make a change, it comes out wrong. So, order what's on the menu, as is, and it'll be a damn fine sandwich.

The seitan cheesesteaks are quite a treat for vegetarians - and the garlic fries are the best I've had in the city so far.
- Cons: Vegetarian Friendly
