good food, order the Bajo.
What other reviewers have said, I agree is all true. I've eaten here many times because I work in the neighborhood. This place is a "lunchtime" restaurant. You won't find dinner here. They have specials for each day of the week, and for instance the Wednesday special was Pollo entomatado or bistek. But today they were out of Bistek. But I recommend that you call and check when they have Bajo available and get that. It's a good value and enough to feed two people if they are not BIG eaters. Includes platanos, salad, beef and yuca. Also check out the central american drinks, maybe you've never heard of one or two, like they have tamarindo, chilla, horchata(nicaraguan style, not Mexican style) and other drinks. Carry your food to the table on a tray.

Traditional, no-fuss Nicaraguan food served up in the heart of the Mission..
In Short
Inside, mauve walls are adorned with an odd mish-mash of framed sports jerseys and Central American landscapes. The cafeteria-style service is no frills, leaving nothing to compete with the main draw: hearty, authentic Nicaraguan food. There's a different menu every day of the week along with daily standards like "Mondongo" (tripe soup). The fried plantains are a house specialty, though the real magic lies in the cumin and anise-soaked beef.

just like home.
i just recently visited Las Tinajas after not being there since i was a child. the food was great..the price is decent and i felt like i was in Nicaragua. being Nicaraguan myself, i grew up with mom's cooking..and eating at this restaurant reminded me very much of home. it's a great restaurant to dine at if you have never tried Nicaraguan food!!..
