I love this place.
Great Pho and service is quick and friendly. Also, try the #30 salad with noodles and chicken. It's light and satisfying. I personally think that they have the best spring rolls in the city. They're huge and wrapped with plenty of basil. Plus, they deliver!

I keep giving it a chance....
I work about 50 feet from this restaurant, and because it's so close, every month or so I give it another chance for lunch, either take out or eat-in, depending on what I'm in the mood for. Each time, I'm frustrated that I tried it again. The garlic sauce is runny and unflavorful, the eggplant undercooked and not fresh, and the vegetarian options taste like they are made with oyster sauce. But it's quick, close and not terrible...so I'm sure I'll be back soon enough.

getting worse.
The waitstaff is a bit unusual. Could it be this is their first job as a waiter? And I question the quality and freshness of the meat. There are much better eats to be found in San Francisco.

Going downhill.
At one point, Hung Yen had some of the best Vietnamese bbq and pho bowls in town. But for some reason, the quality of food preparation has gone down over the years as more and more people have come to discover this-of-the-way Mission dive. The pieces of pork used in the bbq tend to be too fatty and too overdone. And the ingredients in the Pho noddles don't seem to be the freshest anymore. In addition, the place seems to get more rundown every year.
