Editorial Review for Blue Plate – by Citysearch Editors
The Scene
Three small dining spaces, each styled with thrift-store curios and mismatched lamps, host well-dressed hipsters at tightly packed, wooden tables. The front room offers a clear view of the lively exhibition kitchen, but the premier real estate--tree-tucked tables overlooking a gurgling fountain--is in the highly sought-after backyard garden. Servers keep the frenzied pace going with efficient service.
The Food
Local, organic produce figures big in seasonal takes on American standards. Spicy Padron peppers are balanced by sweet goat cheese and almonds, and a salad of little gem lettuce is topped with Frog Hollow Farm peaches and Point Reyes blue cheese. Hearty, enthusiastic flavors keep entrees grounded, including a classic meatloaf served atop creamy mashed spuds, an expertly seared steak and gooey mac-n-cheese. Seasonal desserts can include a luscious peach and nectarine pie or a rich chocolate mini-cake, served warm and drizzled with cream-caramel sauce.

I haven't been to Blue Plate in a really long time (mostly because I went there twice a week for a long time) and I had forgotten how great it was. I had a couple friends in town and decided to go. We had a few small dishes including the lamb appetizer which was great. The meatloaf always amazes everyone. Highly recommended.

I have to admit that I have had only one complaint about the this place... I cannot always walk in and get a table! I have yet to have a bad meal here. The meatloaf is devine, the "drunken goats cheese mac", words cannot begin. Daily fresh food specials, always great. The best part is you can watch the guys cooking, and let me tell you. They work their asses off to put that food on your plate. I almost hate to give this restaurant a great review, because I know that the better review the lesser chance I can just walk in on a friday night and get a table.
Pros: Great food, decent service...
Cons: no "waiting bar", no parking
