Best Merchandise and Worst Customer Relations. House of Color carries many hard-to-find, top-of-the-line tools, materials and accessories for high-quality paint finishes and treatments for home/commercial applications. From faux finishes, metallic finishes, leaf finishes, varnishes, stains, sealers, wall and trim paints, floor and ceiling finishes for interior or exterior, to preparation supplies, cleanup materials, working tools, brushes, rollers, tints, to sandpaper selection worthy of craftsmen, they sell the best you will find anywhere. Specialty items like airbrushes and beaver-tail and badger varnish brushes are in-stock items and fine quality. The selection of products for cabinet and furniture finishing, re-finishing and repairing are so great a professional would be overwhelmed.

House of Color is to paint stores, what Tiffany is to jewelry stores. They both have some pricey goods for sale. They both have security, too. Tiffany security personnel do their job without making a customer feel suspect. House of Color security personnel take a different approach. During my last visit to House of Color, I became aware of a man who was watching me from a few feet away. I asked him if he was an employee and he declined to answer. Then I noticed several other store employees watching me, I moved to another aisle and he was right behind me again. I moved again and he was right behind me. I looked down the aisle, recognized the man coming at me as the manager from previous visits. I quietly and calmly expressed my resentment and disapproval of the surveillance and that I was not trusted. I politely told him how much I had enjoyed all my previous trips to his store, spending hours looking at specialty items i had never seen before, and that i enjoyed making purchases of his fine goods even more. He was responsive. He said he would "call off his man" and that he "had other ways to make sure you don't steal anything". House of Color has shown its true colors are not worthy of my business.
