Another Emporer With No Clothes.
Yet again, the hype wins....."it's so cool..." "it's off the beaten path..." "it's homemade....."
Whatever. I think Americans are just so suggestible or uneducated or something. OK, good ice cream needs a couple things: lots of cream, natural flavors. It does NOT need artificial colors. Mitchell's does not deliver these simple things and they have no sense of decent service, nary a smile or "thank you" all the times I went there. Sure the IDEAS are great: halo-halo, Filopino this Filopino that, but bottom line- no heart, no soul. Someone's gotta call it. Haagan Daz has more soul than Mitchell's!
What's there to say but BINGO!. Shall I repeat it? It's the bomb. (why do I have to write 100 characters for this review to be published? This place only needs one word, and that's excellent. What more can I say?...."...Oh, the chocolate is made with exotic blends of South African and Venezuela chocolate morsals, and I'm sure no animals were harmed in the proccurement of it, nor was there any testing done on animals.) Is that enought?

All I can say is...yum!. Mitchell's ice cream is so good...I usually go for something with chocolate and either caramel or peanut butter, but I was just there and got the seasonal pumpkin. It tasted like pumpkin pie, and I can say is mmmmmmmmmm.
Best Ice Cream.. I`ve been coming here since I was a kid. I absolutely love their ice cream. Halo-halo sundae with mango topping is my favorite!<3 There is always a long line when I pass by or come here; so try to avoid crowded times, esp. on hot days & night. But I say that the long wait is worth it. Many flavors to choose; American flavors & tropical (Filipino) flavors to love.
Best in SF. I now live 70 miles away and have tried all kinds of icecream in many other cities and other countries; nothing beats this place. The twist is the fantastic flavors you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else, but even plain vanilla or chocolate are exceptional here. I've taken many here and all have become longtime customers. Mitchells uses realCREAM not milk or soy products etc. They've been around forever and have perfected making icecream. Not to be missed if you live anywhere in the city. Do yourself a favor and just GO. It will brighten your day.
Lots of flavors - albeit fake ones. I was surprised and dismayed to see that Mitchell's uses artificial flavorings and other unnatural products in their ice cream. In a town like this, I'm suprised Mitchell's ranks as highly as it does. I'll stick with my Haagen-Daaz or the gelato place down the street that doesn't have day-glo flavors.
Which to pick.... The variety is awe-inspiring. The mango is good, but doesn't taste like mango. Try the lychee for something different.
More more Mitchells!. The other day I was made fun of by an SF Police officer for going back into line after I finished my cone. Then she admitted that she had done the same thing. Mitchells is so good you wonder why they havent expanded and dominated the world ice cream market. But its probably just because they like being the best kept secret in San Francisco.
Superb Ice Cream. Mexican chocolate with chocolate dip in a waffle cone is the best ice cream dish I have ever eaten.
