The Scene – In the '50s, the Phoenix served as an occasional playground for Hollywood celebs. Now, remade as a boutique hotel, it enjoys the same status among touring rock stars and the Bay Area's young professionals. The 44 rooms (including three suites) all overlook the heated outdoor pool and modern sculpture garden. Inside, colorful carpets and bedspreads and contemporary pieces by local artists create a kooky-but-comfortable environment. – – The Details – The front-desk staff is friendly and ready to offer opinions on what to do in San Francisco. Legendary Party Spot

by EditorSF at Citysearch

The Phoenix is, to this day, where touring rockers touch down in SF. It's definitely a party hotel, although staff is known to roust unrulies...but that's to be expected; some people are actually trying to sleep.

  • Pros: Oasis-like courtyard with pool
  • Cons: Crackheads outside the oasis

Awesome Stay! Great service!!!

by Zakysmama at Citysearch

Stay was great! Staff is that of a 5 star hotel. We got a call within 10 minutes of entering our room, to make sure everything was ok, and if we needed anything to just call. I have never had that at any hotel I have stayed at.

Shower was a bit disfunctional, water fills up like a bath while you shower. Bathrooms definitely need some remodeling.

The area is not for the snooty, but the cultural and worldy type. Don't let the street people scare you, they are absolutley harmless. Still a great place to stay and centrally located. The continental breakfast was fresh and coffee was fantastic, I love the heated patio.

Bed was very comfortable and linens were awesome. Super clean room. I enjoyed it, we don't usually spend a whole lot of time in our room anyway, but we certainly could have with the comforts of this one.

  • Pros: Very private and secluded!
  • Cons: Small bathroom and shower

Worst staff ever!! continued

by daaslimac at Citysearch

I decided to brush it off. I went back to my room and took the bags out. As I was walking out I saw a few people I met the night before . It is around noon now and we all decided to chill by the pool since it was a nice day and have a couple of drinks. So we are all having a great time in this great pool area that this hotel has . Sore enough here comes the blonde hair doo girl Everyone who has checked out nedds to leave know. I counted up the rooms and the ammount of people there made up at least 7 rooms. I think their staff needs a little more trainig in customer service. I loved the hotel, but the service was horrible all around , the staff all looked like they couldn't give a feces weather you like it there or not. There is a Shrine to Vincent Gallo on the second floor by room 44, it was funny.

  • Pros: Maybe the price
  • Cons: great pool area

Look out cuz soul is back!

by Thee_Admiral at Citysearch

As a young business traveller, I usually try to avoid cheesy contemperory hotels. So when I was in SF I decided to check out the Phoenix. Luckily the night I arrived was the grand opening of the new club/lounge/restuarant in the hotel. Food was great: try the alaskian halibut. Club was fun: loads of hot women. Staff was very friendly. While this hotel is located in the Tenderloin district, I didn't have any problems with the neighbourhood. If you like to party and are looking for a hotel: just GIVE'R at the phoenix. You won't regret. They even have bambo xenlophone-esque instruments in the rooms!

  • Pros: hot women in club, good food, friendly staff
  • Cons: weekdays are quiet, serve more booze

great place to end the night

by luvlychic at Citysearch

whenever i'm in the city for a night out, i park it at the phoenix. this place is not for those who want a relaxing, luxurious getaway. There is a nightclub right in front (which isn't so hot) and a few times I have been here when a bunch of people hang out in the courtyard and play music and party til the early hours of the morn. That's why I like it. Birthdays, graduations, anytime I 'm going to party all night I know I can come back to the phoenix and continue my fun (RESPECTFULLY) as long as no one gets rowdy or rude. The rooms are very clean, funky and the front desk people are always cool. The beds are comfy and its surprisingly quiet in the AM so I can sleep right up until checkout... I always recommend this place to my friends.

  • Pros: chill place, kind people, funky & comfy rooms
  • Cons: pool closes early, club in front SUCKS, needs a jacuzzi
