The Scene
In the '50s, the Phoenix served as an occasional playground for Hollywood celebs. Now, remade as a boutique hotel, it enjoys the same status among touring rock stars and the Bay Area's young professionals. The 44 rooms (including three suites) all overlook the heated outdoor pool and modern sculpture garden. Inside, colorful carpets and bedspreads and contemporary pieces by local artists create a kooky-but-comfortable environment.

The Phoenix is, to this day, where touring rockers touch down in SF. It's definitely a party hotel, although staff is known to roust unrulies...but that's to be expected; some people are actually trying to sleep.

I went to San Francisco for the first time last year. Me and a friend booked a room and drove in from L.A. and arrived in S.F. around 4 am. When we arrived tired and ready to sleep after a few hours of driving. We were not able to get into the front door of the hotel we booked a room at. The guy finally came to the front door after 20 minutes of knocking and calling (granted it was 4 am) with the worst attitude ever. He informed us that the room was taken and to try and find a room somewhere else. I was pissed and could not believe how extremely rude this guy was. Anyway me and my friend went on a journey to through out the city looking for a room with no luck. Finally we came across the Phoenix Hotel. We were greeted with a smile and an understanding ear. We had the best weekend. The hotel room was spotless the decor was this 70's feel. I staff was so helpful with directions and just plain friendly. The party was off the hook. We decided to stay an extra day. We came back this year and the Phoenix did not disappoint. We will be there next year. Thank you so much for the good vibes and good times.

This is my first time visiting california and this hotel made my stay a great experience. Helpful staff and friendly too. My husband made a great choice. We will leave to enjoy the outdoors and come back to a room that is refreshed as if it was never touched
