Going downhill fast. Don't go to this bar. At least not when Jill, the new bartender is working. She is very rude, extremely slow, makes lousy drinks, and has a major attitude problem. She won't even let the patrons play music in the Jukebox, she plays her own awful music. It was so much better last year.... now the crowd is sparse, and uninspiring, and it's lost all appeal. The other 2 guy bartenders are great, but I highly suggest taking your business elsewhere. There are other great bars in this area.
Russian Hill locals are captain and crew of this pirate-ship pub..
In Short
As its name implies, the Buccaneer has the look and feel of a boat galley. Long wooden planks line the vaulted ceiling, lamps are dimly lit and patrons squeeze past each other in the narrow room. A pool table sits in the back surrounded by bar stools and empty kegs. The jukebox is filled with an eclectic mix of loud rock bands. This place is a cool hangout and good foil to the other, more pretentious bars on Polk Street.
Buckaroo. This is a cool spot if you just want to chill. The bartenders are cool, down to earth and easy to chat up. And the place has a cool look to it. Like a dark, dingy old ship. But fellas, at least on the night I went, there was absolutely no talent in the place. Boys Night Out is fun but not when ONLY boys are out. It was a Friday night at the Buccaneer and there were like 30 dudes and 5 girls - no joke. Maybe it was an off night but that ratio is worse than a WWF wrestling match. Well that is my $0.02
