What a great place to go take the kids
in the middle of the night on weekends! Or yourself and a date if there's nothing much else to do and you're in the neighborhood. It's pretty nice for out of town guests too.
They have an "earthquake sundae", I think that's what it's called -- a huge sundae, with everything on it, which 4 people can share and there'll still be leftovers.
Old-fashioned soda fountain and sweets shop that's all about the real San Francisco treat: chocolate..
In Short
In operation since 1852, this famous San Francisco chocolate manufacturer is the longest continually operating chocolatier in America. At the company's shops, find specialty sundaes--including the World Famous Chocolate Sundae and Golden Gate Banana Split--as well as hand-scooped shakes, malts, floats and one- or two-scoop cones. Browse the selection of gifts, gift baskets and candies wrapped in the signature gold foil.
Fun for the kids. Lines can be pretty long, but this place is worth going to at least once. Ice cream was good and the menu is pretty extensive.
Beware of parking scam. The parking garage will claim you have been there all day and tell you there is no alternative but to charge you the maximum parking fee!
Expensive Ice Cream. The ice cream here is okay but definitely not worth the long wait in line or the high prices. The employees also don't really keep the place very clean, I'm always sticking to the tables. This place is good only as a tourist destination, if you're a local just after ice cream go somewhere else.
