In Short – An immense dining room with natural wood paneling and slow ceiling fans evokes 1920s French-Colonial Vietnam. The large menu is an imaginative mix of traditional Vietnamese flavors and Western ingredients. Miniature crab cakes or lime juice-marinated beef tenderloin are popular starters. Entrees include grilled rack of lamb with a lime-pepper dipping sauce and the steamed sea bass seasoned with ginger and lemongrass.

POOR TASTE

POOR TASTE! We ate at Le Colonial tonight and while the food was stellar, I was very put off to see an 18% gratuity added to liquor I ordered separately. Yes, in addition to two bottles of wine, I order a $185 bottle of champagne and 2 - $150 bottles of desert wine for the table and when the bill came they had added the 18% to my $450 bill in addition to adding it to the $700 food bill - POOR TASTE! To top it off the valet charged $14!!!

Excellent Dining Experience

We found this restaurant in the Zagat book in the Tower at the deYoung Museum. Excellent!! We chose from the waiter Daniel's suggestions. The sea bass and pork chop entres were fabulous. The service was perfect: informative, non-invasive, prompt and genteel. Wonderful dining experience that rivals the 10.0 meal we ate at The Luxor in Las Vegas.

Where to Sit:
During warmer weather, sit on the outdoor veranda, away from the rush inside.
Parking:
Be careful--the valet service here isn't a flat rate. Make sure to ask about the hourly charge.
The Extras:
An upstairs bar draws throngs of singles and serves an abridged late-night menu on Fridays and Saturdays.
