Great service, huge portions!. I love this place...the garlic noodles are the best and the small plates are great too. The service is by far the best I've had so far and the ambience is great for romantic dates or family dinners. the short ribs are definitely recommended and don't forget the mango cheesecake for dessert!
Awful, avoid at all costs. This is one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in San Francisco. I've been going to restaurants here for only for years, but I'm from New York, and I expect that when the attitude sucks (which it shouldn't) then at least the food shold be good. But, here, the hostess was awful, the server was awful, the manager, when I asked for him (because of the truly awful service--something I'd never done before) was an obnoxious jerk. Please, avoid at all costs.
Go! (and set your expectations low). We called, said wed be 10mins late, they gave our table away. Told the waitd be 30-45mins. Enforced dresscode: friend changed into one of their regularly pressed blouses. Went for the crab and garlic noodles, looked at nothing else on the menu. The drunken crab (done in white wine), much lighter than the original crab. The garlic noodles - like crack for my stomach - addictive and out of this world. If you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner, do not go here. This place attracts large parties for special occasions. Two crab cakes on a heap of lettuce were cheaper than one of the signature crab dishes. Though they did taste good. The hostesses were snobby. Great waiters and bar staff. Go. Don't expect much. Pay $35 for a crab and $9.50 for the noodles. Then decide if youll go back and try the rest of their menu.
Crab may be the only thing that's good there...... The roasted crab is flavorful and delicious. The garlic noodles is a great accompaniment as it was delicious. Order the stuffed squid - totally inedible; I sent it back. Very rubbery and horribly dry. Got the ravioli instead which was not memorable. The crab and garlic noodles, however, is hands down, wonderful. You can't go to a place called "Crustacean" and not order their speciality dishes.
Not as great as the Hollywood Crustacean.
I enjoyed every dish I had and the service was adequate but there did
not seem to be as many interesting Franco-Vietnamese dishes as I remember
at the Hollywood location. Also missing was the aquarium in the floor. It is almost
as if the owners are distracted by the 90210 buzz with swimming pools and movie
stars when they moved to Beverly. The butter comment of other reviewers is
well taken, but I asked for low fat with my dishes and they lightened things up.
Great Food High Price. The food is wonderful and tasty. The portions are not that large, and the price is not a good value. If money is no object, this place serves tasty seafood dishes. Not the greatest, but very good.
Notes from a foreign field. I unfortunately eat out at least 3 times a week. I am always on the road, mainly in Europe, and entertaining clients; so it's rare for me to get effusive about a restaurant. Whilst not sensational the Crab here is really good (enough to excite a bored palate) so it gets my vote and repeat custom whenever I'm in town. Being foreign I drink wine and the list is where my only criticism would lie... but you can't have your cake, eat it and not get fat; oh how I wish one could...
Special Occasion Dining. Apart from the expensive prices and tacky exterior, Crustacean is one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions. The garlic butter crab is delicious and the garlic noodles are as good as everyone says! The interior of the restaurant is well done and the service is always good however, it seems a little out of place with the surrounding neighborhood. Overall, I would recommend it!
All about msg and butter. Their signature food are all loaded with butter and msg. The garlic noodles taste good but feels as if they are boiled in butter then smothered in msg. The roasted grabs are over priced and VERY SALTY and again, SOAKED in butter. This chef has two main ingredients, msg and butter. He needs to go get other spices. I have chug down 5 glasses of water just over the garlic noodles.
Not worth it.. I tried about five or six different plates, including the crab, and all were plain and uninspiring. I can get much better food at lower prices. The only thing pleasant about this restaurant was our server. He was friendy and gave us free dessert. Probably because he knows this place sucks and felt sorry for us.
