A San Francisco institution with massive portions and old school cafeteria eats. The extensive beer list is also noteworthy!
Good and Cheap Food FAST in an Eclectic Environment. It's a bar-like place with LOTS of seating, but the space is so designed to make it feel cozy (it's not just one large room). I'm amazed at how fast they're able to serve food up (cafeteria-style) and it's good, and they even have salad. They're pretty meat-centric, with pasta being central ... And the servers/chefs are nice and eclectic. Perhaps the best part - you can order dinner, a beverage, and a dessert and not have to worry about spending over $15.
Fantastic!. Can't believe I have lived here four years and hadn't been to Tommy's Joint! The minute I walked in I fell in love with the place! The buffet style food looked mouth watering. I got the corned beef and cabbage plate and a side of baked beans. The portions were huge!!!!! The minute I tasted the food it was so good that I was determined to eat everything on my plate. I did! The prices were incredible. For three people with sodas it cost around 25 bucks. You can't find those prices anywhere else in the city. I like the place so much that I'm getting hungry just writing this review. You have to go and experience Tommy's Joynt.
Cheeze, pleeze. My girlfriend's been refusing to go here for years. Meat, beer, more meat and beer. I eat a lot of expense account meals so a meat and grease binge once in a while is mandatory. Great!
Food fit for a warrior. The Joynt isn't your average restaurant and because of that it is a unique eating experience in SF. Meatlovers welcome to Valhalla-- grab a lamb shank, order up a pint, and prepare for Odin's booming voice to order you to strap on your shield and march out one of the doors towards glory. Drinks are stiff and cheap, so instead of wasting your money down on Polk street stay at the Joynt and after dinner drink till closing (almost 2AM). Lost of different kinds of meats, but my favorites are the meatballs and the buffalo dishes. Try the buffalo(stew or chili) its hearty and lean. Great location; after dinner walk across the street to catch a movie at the AMC, or walk down Van Ness to the opera house. Don't let the tourists run our local treasures, this is classic 'Frisco'.
KILLER PASTRAMI. Before you even walk into this landmark restaurant a smile will take you over as soon as you see the exterior of the building which has a brightly colored muralon it. Then you step into the place and you can see you have just been transported to old San Francisco. The food is on the right and will knock your socks off and for a price that hardly put a dent in your wallet. The bar is on the left with prices for drinks that seem pre 1960. This is the place to go to meet good friends or make new ones. The pastrami is killer, and every time I travel to SF I can't wait to go to tommy's joynt.NOT A PLACE TO MISS
Vat a bah-gen!. Love meat, love beer. Wish I found this place when I was in college, I'd have lived at this place. Still worth a weekly trip. Highly recommended.
Best Corned Beef EVER!!!. I actually made two trips in 24 hours since I was staying at the hotel across the street. The corned beef and cabbage dinner was FABULOUS and the round of beef was very tasty as well. Definitely worth the money. I got the rum punch and it was only $5.50 at least $1.50 less than I'm used to paying for cocktails.
Old fashioned American. Great place if you're hungry and on a budget. It's a cafeteria style restaurant - which may seem weird - but it adds to this place's charm. Huge, huge portions - you won't leave hungry. Come here before or after a movie - it's right across the street from the AMC Van Ness
A Tenderloin hofbrau that serves hearty portions of all-American fare at rock-bottom prices..
In Short
Every wood-paneled angle inside is covered with quirky memorabilia--from a mannequin on skis to cupcake tins hanging from the ceiling. Patrons order at the counter and sit down at long tables with checkered tablecloths. Roast beef, turkey, corned beef and ham are offered as sandwiches or as generous platters with sides such as stuffing, mashed potatoes and pickles.
Home Cookin'.
What a great place! This place screams comfort food. Everything from spareribs, meatball sandwiches, buffalo stew, carved meat, hot turkey, and more. Vegetarians need not enter.
Personally, I had the meatball sandwich and it was teriffic.
Very laid back atmosphere. And a full bar!
