view & uploadMy neighborhood sushi in San Fran. I live in Manhattan and this is my regular sushi place whenever I come visit . The fish is always amazingly fresh and the service at the bar is so friendly and makes you feel at home. Great place to eat by youself (or with company). The daily specials are great, especially the toro, sweet shrimp and anything with uni. Beats almost any NYC sushi place hands down. For the quality this is very reasonably priced.
Just Great!. My wife and I stayed at a hotel nearby in June 2008 and decided to try. This place was so good we went back a second night later in the week and they remembered us. The second visit we ordered different items than the previous visit and we never disappointed. We were extremely pleased with every aspect of our dining experience. Their product was extremely fresh and generous.
Great Sushi, Oniony Chicken Bowl. Ate at Sanruku last weekend and got prompt service, great sushi. Ordered a few different rolls as well as a chicken bowl. Sushi possibly best I've ever had, although the chicken bowl had a lot of onions and was the dominant flavor of the bowl. The Futomaki roll was my favorite! Will defintely eat there again.
Sushi Lovin. This place is the perfect mix of comfort and quality. I always feel welcome here, and I never leave unhappy with my meal. Great sushi and decent prices. I highly recommend sanraku.
surprised the rating is so low. After eating here, I am surprised that Sanraku has only been able to muster an 8.9. I felt this was a top rate sushi place. Very tidy presentation, generous service, and tasty fish. The hamachi we had was very fresh. This place is in my opinion a tad over priced however.
so-so sushi. There are better places in San Francisco, but Sanraku is decent with fair pricing. I've had a few problems with take outs (they forgot to include the shrimp heads with the ama-ebi), but in general the sushi is good. The portions of fish are fairly generous, but the seasoning of the rice could be better. The lunch bento boxes are a great deal, though, and service is generally very quick.
Great place for under $10 lunch!. I've been eating here for 10 years now, and it's my favorite Japanese place in the city. I call it 'intermediate' Japanese food, much the same way I consider House of Nanking to be 'intermediate' Chinese food -- the dishes are all authentic in preperation, but they do adjust recipies for Western pallettes, using only breast-meat chicken, for example. And for me, that works just fine. The bento box is about $8 and changes daily, including super-crispy salad, miso, rice, and the 5 item bento great deal! All the food is extremely good, but some standouts are worth mentioning. The Sanraku chicken is great -- white-meat chicken chunks, battered and fried, with a sweet/spicy sauce and nicely cooked onion. The California rolls always are perfect, with fresh and ripe avocado. Great starter salads of iceberg lettuce with a zingy ginger dressing. Teriaki beef made of a nice grilled steak, sliced up with sauce. Friendly service, nice clean interior, great food -- and it's 2 blocks from my apartment! :)
Neighborhood sushi joint w/ out-of-town regulars. How many restaurants have regulars who don't even live in the same state? Sanruku has devoted regulars of neighbors and, as the sNob Hill neighbors like to say, out-of-town "guest workers." The sushi bar often reminds me of "Cheers." With so many sushi restaurants, why do these people, especially, the regulars from L.A., MN, & NYC keep going back? Fresh fish, the best sushi rice, and attentive service. Don't like fish? Not to worry, their meat dishs are among the best in town. And when you earn the status of "regular," (hint: sit at the sushi bar) they'll surprise you with creative dishes on the unwritten special "regular menu."
Editorial Review. Sit down for a full-course menu of Japanese cuisine, from miso soup to sushi to dessert. Catering available.
Superb food and service. The place can get pretty busy and the quarters are a bit cramped but I've found this to be the best Japanese in the city. The Miso is beautifully subtle, lightly flavored with sesame. One thing I highly recommend is the Sesame Chicken which is out of this world. I've searched the city over for the best sesame chicken and without a doubt it's this is the winner. I have seen prettier sushi but the ingredients here are of the best possible quality and are prepared expertly.
