The Scene
Though a destination for worldly jet-setters and devout Francophiles, chef Hubert Keller's stunning enclave is more about new American showmanship than Old World tradition. The main dining room--flush with grand bouquets and votive candles--is enveloped in elegant, patterned fabric that tents softly overhead. Service ranks among the city's finest, except in the small, less ornate side room, where diners may feel dismissed and categorically unromanced.

The Food

Keller is one of the most famous founders of nouvelle cuisine, and remains unafraid of the subtlety of a perfect vegetable. Seasonal verdure is given delicate, stylized makeovers for his four-course vegetarian feast of expert salads, ragouts and canapes. He also pays special attention to color in his artful meat and seafood presentations, painting plates with fragrant sauces and rich touches. Tiny tureens of soup such as creamy Vichyssoise may come with silver spoonfuls of caviar or other luxe dollops.

Fleur De Lys is a wonderful French restaurant that has delicious dishes to choose from. The sauces are rich and delicious and the entrees are cooked to perfection. The ambiance is romantic and intimate.

This was our second time at Fleur De Lys, the first time being the one in Vegas. I found that the ambiance, as well as the service, was better in San Francisco. The restaurant basically uses a dinner format that allows you to choose how many "courses" you want, with the option of having each course paired with wine. You can go for 3, 4 or 5 courses. There is a menu to help you build your courses, but what I would recommend to anyone is to tell your server to ask that the chef surprises you - of course, you have to be open to eating anything on the menu, but the chef does create a personalized menu where each course builds on the previous one. Each plate is art - the taste, the pairing of the ingredients, the taste.... we were anticipating each course and it delivered each and every time. The cost is high, especially with the pairing - but it is really an experience worth having.

It was our anniversary so we were lucky enough booking late for a reservation for a 2 top during the week. We had very high expectations because it was rated top 5 french in the city.... where was the chef? we had ancey servers and not knowing who was our server out of the first 4 people to come to our table. if knife cuts and color with plate design was the three components to food the meal was great, except that you forgot FLAVOR , SALT and PEPPER. thanks to the wine, and the dessert part of the night was worth it.
