we went here with some friends and ordered a chicken and a steak mini burritos. there was one diff, he went back to ask for habaneros on his.
the burritos were fantastic
his chicken burrito w/habaneros burned, seriously burned.
[it might be a good idea to take some antacid (maalox, pepto, etc...) if you plan on having the hot peppers in your food]
with a bite of his burrito we downed quite a bit of horchata as well as chips & sour cream. it was still a fun and tasty experience. i'm sure we will be heading back in no time
parking is not easy in the area
veggie burrittos yum!. I'm not even a vegetarian and i love their veggie burritos! that's all I ever order. I love their rice also! Their service is great. I go there all the time and I've never had a bad experience. I used to work in retail and I know what kind of people who complained about their service are like; They're stupid, or on the phone when ordering, didn't realize what they were saying, then took it out on the staff. I saw those kinds of people all the time working in retail! This place is so yummy!!
Best Homemade Corn Tortillas in this part of town. I love Panchos. I walk by on my way home most days and am usually tempted to get a burrito, the mole (which I usually don't like but I like it here), or the fish tacos. I think they could put anything in those wonderful, soft, steaming hot corn tortillas and it would taste great. The service is usually great.
really good fish tacos. so, i started going here june of '07, after all of these bad reviews. i've only ever ordered two items, the grilled fish tacos and the deep fried fish tacos. the former were very good, and i think also very healthy. the latter is much better probably due to being deep fried. the fish is perfectly crispy and has amazing texture. i've also heard poor remarks regarding specifically one of the male servers/order takers however have not had any problems myself. honestly, these fish tacos would probably overcome any problems i might have w/ service. additionally, i've ordered pick up in advance a number of times and (i live two blocks away) i usually time this perfectly (it always takes 10-15 min) where the food's ready w/in a couple minutes of me getting here. i've never had anyhthing else (meaning to try pork tacos) but i don't really see a reason to these fish tacos are really good.
Worst Quesadilla / Even Worse Customer Service.
With all the fantastic options in the area, do not waiste your time...
My first ,and only experience, at this forgettable restaurant included a paper-thin cheese quesadilla, more remeniscent of papyrus than anything edible... After approaching the waitress/cashier and kindly explaining my disappointment, I was simply told to "buy a cup of cheese". My recommendation - - take advantage of every other mexican restaurant in the area that knows how to make a great quesadilla, as well as appreciate their customers.
bland burritos. i've come here a few times hoping that the food will taste better but unfortunately it isn't. the meat is bland and they don't put enough ingredients in it sometimes. i've had better burritos from taco bell then this place. a pro of this place is the variety of salsa they have.
VERY RUDE AND BAD SERVICE. I have tried several occasions to call my food in before I go there to pick it up to avoid the long lines. Every single time (4 to be exact) they did not start making the food until I actually waited in line, got to the front and told them I was there for a pick up. Then they start making the food. Very rude people and terible service although their food is pretty good.
Great fresh Mexican food - NOT mission style.
I've been eating at Pancho's on Polk since I moved to the city in '96 from Arizona -- 10 years of consistently great food which I highly recommend.
Food highlights: VERY consistent high quality food. They have 4 types of salsa, two of which are really outstanding - the fresh pico de gallo and the green salsa (tomatillo perhaps). When you order tacos or quesadillas, they hand-make the thick corn tortillas (gorditas) right on the spot. I recommend the chicken fajita burrito (without beans) or some fish tacos, and a mug of Dos Equis (sometimes on special for $1.50/mug).
Service: Never a problem - they are quiet and polite, and since the food is made fresh (not from a steam table), the 3 extra minutes required is fine with me. I always tweak my order somewhat (no beans or rice in a burrito, for example) and they have yet to error (this is in *10 years* people). The same staff are STILL working there since '96...this I'm sure helps the consistency.
TIP: This place doesn't not make the enormous, bean & rice filled, foil wrapped, steam table burritos that are served in the Mission (which I personally avoid anyway). Nor do they do the saucy/cheesy Sonoran-style food of southern AZ (ala Tommy's).
Their service is awful.. I ordered a Mahi Buritto an a pitcher of Dos Equis. I guess the lady who was behind the counter entered the wrong order. When the waiter was giving me my food I got Mahi Tacos instead. I told the person who was serving the food that I ordered a Buritto. He gave me a mean look and insisted that I ordered tacos. I went to the lady who took the order and told her that I ordered a Buritto. She said no. She also said that she even confirmed it and that I said yes, which never happened. Anyways, this was the worst service I ever had. Not only did they get my order wrong, but they were also really rude about it.
Love Pancho's on Geary But....
but the Polk one simply isn't good. most importantly, the service is HORRIBLE. i can't tell you how many times they've screwed up my order and then made me feel like it's MY fault.
also, compared to the one on Geary, this food simply isn't as good. portions are smaller, clearly more thrown together and low on meat/fish filling.
simply put: there are so many better places to get burritos in the city--make the extra trip to the Richmond to the real Pancho's
