The Scene
Fetching terra cotta accents, flattering lighting, and crisp white table linens paint the picture of a classical European dining experience. Upscale Russian Hill residents--young and old, but most decidedly moneyed--return again and again for the bliss of Continental elegance paired with a bottle of wine.
The Food
The menu changes weekly, but the craving for classic French cuisine will be satisfied with standards such as plump steamed mussels doused in crushed garlic and white wine, and a velvety sweet foie gras paired with prunes and buttered baguette toasts. For entrees, the classic coq au vin, paired with fettuccine, is dark and brothy, and a variation on Beef Wellington is done with salmon in a crust of black truffles and pastry dough.

As a regular at this charming little bistro for years, I think it is only fair to write a review. The food in this restaurant is pure perfection and a real visit to the country roads of France. You should try their cheese tart, goat salad, salmon tartare, or snails bourguignone to start. Then, for the main course, the cassoulet, duck magret, beef short ribs, or halibut with aioli are absolutely delicious! To top it off, the sumptuous chocolate souffle, tarte tatin, or cream of nougat are to die for. Their wine list gives you the opportunity to try some outstanding rare finds and lots of choices. This restaurant can be busy on weekends, so try it on the weekdays when it's more relaxed. The wait staff is awesome -- professional and genuinely friendly. They go out of their way to make your dining experience the best, offering suggestions and really paying attention to you. Hyde Street Bistro is the perfect place for a truly satisfying meal with your special someone, your family, your business associates, or your friends. Check it out -- spend an evening with the team that really won the World Cup...
