Not Recommended. The food was over cooked. When we mentioned about it , we were treated badly.
great fondue. My husband and I love this restaurant! The food is excellent and there is plenty of it. It can get a little pricey with the "add ons" like chicken and shrimp but overall it's a pretty good value for the amount and quality of food.
Great for locals and visitors alike. I'm very surprised at some of the bad reviews. This is definitely not a place "just for tourists." My husband and I have both been to the Alps and we found this restaurant charming and authentic and reminiscent of our visit. The fondue was delicious, the service attentive, and the atmosphere adorable. Even my snobbiest of foodie friends swear by this place for fondue. Go and enjoy!
I Love it!!.
Just came back from Switzerland. The Matterhorn SF gives you a wonderful swiss experience. We always come with my 2-year old and the owner adores him. She actually walks around with him while me and my husband are eating.
We just love it.
Fondue for me!!.
As it is, I was at the Matterhorn last Sunday night. I saw only one small toddler in the Restaurant which was bothering everybody else, crying and trying to get out on the dining room floor. The parents seemed completely stressed out and did not bring anything to play for the kid. What a shame to pin your miserable planing on the Restaurant. I saw a bowl falling from the table and the mess under the table, oh my god!!
Sorry people but you should take full responsibilty for your actions!
I got annoyed about this toddler myself and can not blame the Restaurant to protect their property when it is eaten at or spit over. Sorry, no..
By the way, the food and service was great as usual. Well, hopefully other parents read this and plan ahead for a nice night out.
DOES NOT "SPECIALIZE IN FAMILY". We just came home from the Matterhorn very upset. Our food was actually decent, however, it was not worth the treatment. We made reservations at the Matterhorn with my young daughter based soley on the comment listed under the title to the resturant "Specializes in Family." The service was sub-par anyways, but when the manager came to our table and jerked a dessert menu from my daughter's hand and told her "NO" we asked for our check....only to be charged for dessert that had yet to be brought to our table. The waiter came out shortly after with the dessert and said "sorry, she doesn't like kids." Needless to say I would NOT reccomend this to anyone...family or not they are not professional or courteous and the food doesn't make up for it.
User review by celica. The food was well, but it is not so authentic as in Switzerland, also the waiters. The most negative points are firstly: it is too expensive. I'd expected for this price more quantity and better service. Secondly, the Service from the chief is very unfriendly. This could be really improved.
Fond-Don't. Based on other reviews we planned a birthday dinner for a party of four. Our server recommended we order one cheese fondue and one meat fondue. We followed her recommendation and also ordered several extra sides for dipping. We received our cooking oil and some of the sides (one was never served), but we had to ask for the beef that was supposed to come with it and then waited 15 minutes before it was brought to the table. The oil lost its heat quickly and was not able to cook all of the meat that we ordered. They offered to re-heat the oil saying it could only be re-heated once, but once was not enough to heat all of the raw meat. They are generous with the bread and water. I would not recommend this place!
Dip and Cook!.
When I read all the good reviews I was very excited to go the the Matterhorn. What else to expect than good food and service from the Swiss. Food was just wonderful presented and really fresh. The wine list is superb and so reasonably priced. Well done!
The waiter told me that the restaurant is open for 11 years now.. wow.. that means a lot in SF.
If you want great food, fun and a little bit of an european experience, that's the place to dine!
Always worth it!!!!.
I've been dining at this restaurant for years now and tried almost every fondue and LOVED almost all of them. This is my favorite restaurant by far in San Francisco because of the food, the full bar, the wonderful wine list that the wait staff are happy to help with, and the service is always wonderful.
I would definitely RECOMMEND ordering cheese, meat and chocolate fondue AND all the side dishes to dip AND trying a new wine. It may seem a little more expensive, but if you're going to go you might as well bask in the glory of what they have to offer.
On top of that it is a very pleasant, calm, european decor and has VALET PARKING!!!!! usually on weekend nights. this is pretty crucial on van ness. otherwise you can park south a few blocks at a pay lot.
