Friendliest, Warmest staff of any salon I've ever been to!!. After reading the review on the dry, snobby service I felt compelled to stop reading and start writing--my first review! Not sure what the whole situation was with that person, but I have been coming here for years and am a self-described salon & spa fiend. The people at the front desk are so genuinely warm and welcoming I can't imagine having a bad experience with them. They're also pretty funny and I always have nice little conversations with them when I'm checking in or out. I've bounced around with different stylists and have always been happy with my hair, my style isn't very complicated, though, so it's also pretty hard to mess up. I haven't run into a snobby stylist here, either, which is really lucky in a Union Square salon! Are you listening DiPietro Todd?

The Diamond Peels are out of this world! I love me some microdermabrasion, it leaves my skin so smooth and flawless and doesn't make me all red and irritated afterwards, I actually get an instant kind of glow after one. Every esthetician I've seen so far has been really knowledgable and super sweet, it's hard for me to commit to just one. I also like to book my appointments at the last minute. One person I have committed to, though, is Teri for the best pedicure EVER! The pedicure is crazy expensive ($60!) but I fork it over as often as I can. Thanks for always doing a flawless job, Teri!

A couple of things that are annoying, though:

You can't leave a tip on the credit card, only cash or an ATM card (I never use my ATM card and never carry cash--irritating!)

Add $5 to to your visit when you're planning a budget, there is a 'surcharge' to pass on the cost of some SF sick leave law onto the client instead of the owner coming up with it. I honestly don't even notice it anymore, but I've never heard of a salon doing this before and it just seems really tacky. Just raise prices then, you know?

All in all, though, I highly recommend this place, fabulous service, fabulous people. I'm hooked!

Great colorist, and a fantastic cut. I started going to this salon just over a year ago. I have a terrific colorist who changes my highlights to match the season (lighter in summer, darker in spring), and my haircuts have been great, no lie, with 4-months in between! I always mean to come in sooner for a trim, but life just kinda gets in the way. Tommie and David are both fantastic and sophisticated stylists

Be AWARE! SNOBBY AND UNFRIENDLY. This place is a dump. I say that, because if you go there, being the Maiden Lane, you have expectations of an upscale, friendly and HONEST place. This is absolutely the opposite. The staff is dry, unfriendly and snobby. The service is ok, nothing special, I have had better massages and better facial before, you are absolutely a number there, you are not specially treated and you don?t feel pampered. You feel like ?get it done, pay and leave?. Another thing that happened there; I was asked to remove my necklace before the facial (note the facial does not go below your chin at Maiden Lane, I say that because I had facial that included neck and a shoulder?s massage, John Francis at Church St. is wonderful) and I left my necklace at a little table sitting across the room, when I called next day to retrieve my belonging, no one saw, no one heard anything. The manager won?t answer my e-mails and he didn?t even call me back, I called him, and what I heard was ?if the necklace pops up here we will give you a call?, it?s being two weeks, I never got a call. It makes me wonder how upscale is a place like this?

Editorial Review. Master colorist, with celebrity clientele, offers quality highlights and hair coloring.

nothing special anymore. I have been going here for at least 10 years. After the awful experience I just had, I won't be going back. The place has really changed in the past months.

DO NOT GO THERE!. My hair looked like the stylist was blind folded or today was her first day out of salon school.

She then charged me $90. I got my color and it was not what I asked for and again over priced and not worth it.

it's not that posh, to be honest. seen better.

san francisco has poor standards when it comes to salons.

Fabulous new colorist named Karen!. Well, I just read several other reviews, and I wouldn't know about the other stylists. I just went there for the first time last week and there's this colourist, apparently she's new there, but she did the most amazing job on my hair! I've gone to so many expensive places/people and my red dye job always ended up looking fake. But she did something that made me look like I just naturally have deep auburn red hair. With all the natural looking highlights and lowlights and such. I hope it's not that much of a revolving door. I wouldn't her leaving anytime soon...

Umm no.... I went to this salon based on reputation alone. I have medium blonde hair and needed some new highlights and a root touch up. I brought pictures, had a consult and thought the stylist and I were both on the same page. When she was done my hair was sooo brassy and my scalp had bleach burns on it, which later turned to a couple of painful scabs. I expected much better results for such an upscale place. I think this salon pays too much attention to image and not enough time training their employees.
