Editorial Review for 77 Maiden Lane Salon & Spa – by Lorraine Sanders
The Scene
A favorite among ladies-who-lunch, well-to-do city visitors and image-conscious executives, this posh downtown destination hums with activity seven days a week. The second-floor space softens the buzz from its army of staff and clientele with soothing cream-colored walls, furnishings in calming coffee tones and distinct enclaves for cut, color, nail and makeup services. Spa treatments take place in sanctuary-like rooms that seem (and sound) miles away from the lively salon. A softly lit lounge and changing area with lockers are also available to spa-goers.
The Services
Classic European beauty rituals characterize the offerings here. The tiny crystals used in the Diamond Peel resurface and stimulate tired skin, while the quickie Vienna Peel freshens faces in just 30 minutes. For intensive invigoration, the anti-fatigue Moor Mud body wrap cloaks the body in warmth during a relaxing massage. Hair and nail services range from highlights to thermal reconditioning, quick polish changes to lengthy pedicures.
The Details
Massage, reflexology, body treatments, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, make-up applications, weddings, manicure/pedicure, full-service salon, hair extensions, thermal reconditioning.

I realized that after all the salons I tried in this city before finding my current one, I had not reviewed any. So, if you are in the market for a new salon, I thought I'd tell you my experience. I saw Nikas here when he was here and although he is allegedly the best in the city, um, he's not. My color was pretty good, but too monotone/no dimension, and it took 4 hours. My blowdry was not great, and it was expensive. I can't speak for the people there now, but the salon to me felt like more hype than substance and it actually seems like it used to be a doctor's or dentist's office with the way it was set up. If you are looking for fabulous hair, I'd go to Ron Pernell studio. Hugh McGuire is the best in the city for color.
Pros: atmosphere
Cons: nothing special about the color or blowdry - it was just ok
