In Short – Located on Grant Avenue, smack dab in the middle of Chinatown, the plain-Jane, two-story eatery is filled with both neighborhood denizens and savvy outsiders. As with most locals' hangouts in the neighborhood, the decor doesn't go much beyond the usual linoleum and Formica. This place is awful

I live in the neighborhood and have never really gone wrong with Chinese food in Chinatown. Until now that is. Enter Bow Hon: terrible food...service that makes you wonder who should be paying who...and, adding insult to injury, it is way overpriced.
To top it all off, they don't take credit cards. So, when I cleaned out my wallet and was a dollar shy of the (overpriced!) bill, the waitress just gave me a blank stare and grunted "Citibank is across the street". I pity the tourists who end up here and go away thinking this is what Chinese food in SF is all about. Truly abysmal.
