The Scene – With a prime location in Union Square, this 36-story hotel is grand indeed. The top-floor Grandviews restaurant and lounge satisfies several senses. Fine cuisine delights the taste buds, live jazz music appeals to the ears and panoramic downtown vistas please the eyes. Among numerous services you will find an award-winning concierge, excellent business center and town car service to the Financial District on weekday mornings. It's no wonder you see so many well-cut suits in the hallways here. – – The Details – Each of the 693 large, smartly decorated guest…

Marginal Staff - Small Rooms

by LJSS

If you like being treated like a guest overstaying your welcome, this is place is for you. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor. (One bright spot was a lovely older bellman who helped us during arrival.) We came casual to breakfast, as we were on vacation, and they seated us in the corner next to the kitchen. The rooms are small but nice. However, the staff was less than friendly and needs a brush up on their attitude. We stay often in San Francisco and will go back to our old favorites after this less than thrilling experience. Further, if you want a view, go somewhere else.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: staff, views

Beautiful beginning

by calinsa07

We arrived at this beautiful hotel and was greeted by wonderful valets and all of our luggage was unloaded for us. We were brought to the front desk to check in and then to our room. It was a great room and a wonderful view. All the staff were excellent in making sure that we were well cared for. The following day we went out for a day on the city, had reservations to one of the city's premier restaurants at 7:30 and returned around 4 to prepare. Unfortunately, when we arrived the room was still unmade and we did not have clean towels. Things became worse from there. We went down to the front desk explaining that we needed towels and our room needed attention. They assured us that a housekeeper would be up immediately to take care of the situation. We returned to the front desk at 5:00 as we still had not seen a housekeeper and let them know that we had reservations at 7:30 and needed this to be taken care of immediately. The desk clerk apologised and once again said that a housekeeper would be up immediately. 6:00 pm still no housekeeper or towels we made a call to the front desk and 6:30 a housekeeper showed up saying "what do you want!" We told her the problem and she said that they had finished all of the rooms and would bring towels. 15 minutes later we received towels and the room was never made. The worst part was we were right next to the housekeeping room on the 12th floor! Horrid Service!! Needless to say we were 45 minutes late for our reservations and had to wait an hour to get a table! I have stayed at many 4 to 5 star hotels and have always gotten the best service. This was mortifying and I would never stay at this hotel again.

  • Pros: Wonderful location, Great room, Great view of the City.
  • Cons: Horrible service....absolutely the worst I have ever experienced even 2 star hotels are better

Wonderful place to stay at the last minute

by sam00600

I was in San Francisco May 31st thru June 5th and stayed at the Grand Hyatt starting June 1st. I was originally staying at the Hotel California/Savoy Hotel but the noise, room and amenties were much to be desired. So I called up the Grand Hyatt and they were having a special deal for the weekend and my stay (for 4 nights) cost roughly $900. When I entered the hotel I was treated like a VIP. They were extremely accomodating considering I was checking in at around 11:30 AM (check in is at 4 PM). The staff at the hotel were extremely kind and helpful. The room was beautiful, clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The view from my room was beautiful and another plus about this hotel is that everything is within walking distance. Macys, Westfield Centre San Francisco (Bloomingdales, Sanrio, huge food courts, Bristol Farms, Nordstroms etc....), cable cars, Union Sqaure etc.....This hotel is wonderfully located and I highly recommend it to anyone going to San Francisco.

  • Pros: walking distance to all major San Francisco spots
  • Cons: Valet Parking is expensive but it is San Francisco
