The fresh mango with warm sticky rice is tasty as well. I would recommend it to those who are looking for a new lunch spot but probably wouldn't go out of my way to go there for dinner.
Good Food, Bad Service. I've been here numerous times: lunch, dinner, weekdays, weekends. The food is always very good (spicy Tofu, veggie pad-thai, chicken curries) but the service is always slow. If you are not in a hurry and don't mind asking for drink refills, this is a wonderful place and well priced.
What Appetizers??. This place is just AWFUL! I have eaten lunch here before and because i was the only one in the resturant, the service was O.K. I went back for happy hour and dinner, NO free appetizers!! The service was slow even thought there seemed to be a lot of people working. The water was served in finger bowls and there was something floating in mine. I will not go back here. There are so many great Thai resturants in this city, and this is not one of them!
Best thai near Moscone. I've seen several negative reviews of the restaurant, but I've always liked the place. Fresh ingredients and a lot of fare that goes beyond red and green curries.
Dreadfully bad food.. The food at Cha-Am is, to put it simply and to the point -- DREADFUL! It bears absolutely no resemblance to the fine tastes of Thai cuisine. Add to that, the service is very slow and rude. It is a place to be avoided.
One of the worst. I can't imagine how this place was rated as high as it is. It's awful. With a Thai wife and having spent years in Thailand, I can spot pretty authentic Thai food and restaraunts. Authentic isn't everything: I think that there is a certain amount of interpretation that is necessary for it to be great Thai food. The food at Cha-Am Thai is awful, consisting of inappropriate vegetables and poorly flavored sauces. The primary flavors of thai food are (of course) chillis, sourness usually from lime, saltiness presented by preserved sea foods, and sweetness. These ingredients are not hard to find in San Francisco. Yet the don't use them appropriately. The service has always been exceptionally rude in my opinion, and the prices are very high compared to the quality of food.
