One Market Restaurant features an open exhibition kitchen with a "Chef's Table" in the kitchen, two private dining rooms, a luxurious bar (watched over by a fantastic James Stagg painting of the Marin Farmer's Market commissioned for the restaurant). Add a top-notch staff and there's little wonder why One Market has been packed from the first day. …

They just celebrated their 20 year anniversary & that means they're doing something right! Go in for Chef Mark Dommen's Cioppino and celebrate with a glass of champagne.
Always a good choice. I have eaten here many times and the restaurant never fails to please. The roasted meats are terrific and the sides are fun for sharing, particularly the chickpea fries. The wine list highlights many, many small producers--great choices. The mini desserts are delicious, particularly the Mint Ice Cream Sandwich. This is one of the most underrated restaurants in San Francisco by far!
Bad for Groups. Maybe its because I always go here with large groups, but I have consistently found both the food and the service to be "just ok". Consistency is a plus in that we always can count on a passible meal, but I have never found much "inspired" about the menu, the atmosphere, or the waitstaff. Its in a very convenient location and can seat (and adequately serve) very large groups.
Great Food and Fun Bar!. My girlfriends and I had a great night at One Market. We met the bartenders, Francisco and Brian (who were cute and fun) during happy hour in the bar, and then had dinner at the Chef's table in the restaurant. Chef Mark amazed us course after course, and Steve, the Sommelier wowed us with his wine selections. We will be back soon, no doubt. ;)
Great Calif./American food with a twist.
I have tried all of the fish dishes on the lunch menu and they are all EXCELLENT. Perfectly cooked, delicious and all prepared with a "little something extra" that makes you feel special when you eat it.
For example there is a Tuna Salad (Nicoise), which has all the ingredients of the classic French salad but is updated with the modern California-styled seared tuna pieces, YUM. The crab salad is a great combination of fennel, avocado, & grapefruit - all perfect compliments to dungeness crab. Don't miss out if this dish is available.

There is only a view of the ferry building not the waterfront. Happy hour is only for the people sitting at the bar not for diners. Very dissappointing! The restaurant was less than a quarter full and the hostess asked us if we had reservations. She seemed displeased that we didn't then sat us. The appertisers were the highlight of the meal. The squash flower risotto was excellent. The bread was terrific, warm sourdough mini loaves. My veal chop was large but tough in areas (range fed). Desserts were good.
We had got there at 6pm and by seven the restaurant was 3/4 full. Despite the happy
hour letdown the beer was a good deal at a little over $4.00 for an imported pint on draft. All in all we would go again gladly.
Best Happy Hour in the Financial District. I went after work one day and it's the best happy hour in the city. They have the best vodka selection I've ever seen. The bartenders are great (especially Francisco ) and so were the drinks. The Sommelier, Steve, was also very helpful with wine selections. We will definitely be back!
Great location. I took some friends after the baseball game, and it was great. I had no problem getting in with out a reservation(we were very early) and the food and service were fabulous. I would highly recomend to friends and will certainly be back.
Most under-rated city restaurant. I had dinner there last night and it was excellent. My wife had the halibut and I had the pork tenderloin and we were very, very pleased. I liked the fact that the prices were in the $25 dollar entree range and not over $30. We shared the dessert trio where you pick three smaller portion desserts to make up your own platter. Fantastic. Other restuarnants should do the same. Our service was great, too. Prompt, courteous and attentive. All in all a terrific evening. We will highly recommend One Market and will definitely be back.
Unbelievably bad service. I've eaten here many times, but tonight was astonishingly bad: we were seated for over 20 minutes before a server first approached us; dishes were served to the wrong people at every course; they attempted to serve us courses that were for a nearby table; at every course there was at least one person who did not receive their order; all the entree plates were cleared while one person was still finishing their entree (the person who's dish had been served 5 minutes after the others); utensils were not replaced after appetizers; the wine steward had no idea who had ordered the wines and asked the wrong person to taste them. Some of these are small infractions, but I expect a much higher quality of service at such an establishment (and at $100 a person), and I was embarrassed at having brought out-of-town business colleagues.
Poor Service. We've eaten here twice. The food is very good but the service has been lacking both times. The second time we ate here, we booked the chef's table with some friends for a birthday celebration. At $95 per person, we shouldn't have had to wave down a cook to find our server on numerous occasions. I doubt I would come here again when I can get great food AND GREAT SERVICE elsewhere.
