Fantastic Pizza, Fantastic Cheesecake.
I discovered Mondo Caffe while in SF on business. Walked in for dinner one night and fell in love! I now go in for dinner every time I'm in town. The pizza is fantastic, and is the closest to what I had in Italy. Very fresh and flavorful, and the crust is delicious. The salads are great too. The desserts that we tried, the cheesecake and the tiramisu, were fantastic. The cheesecake is the best I've ever had. The cheesecake is made with ricotta and is very light.
They are also open for breakfast, but I've not been in there for that. I have been in for lunch, and although they don't have pizza at lunch, they have great sandwiches. The bread is very fresh and the sandwiches we've had were great.
The owner's name is Ettone, and he is always in the restaurant at dinner. He always asks how our food is, whether we need anything else, etc. Very personable. You can tell that he cares very much about the quality of your food and your dining experience. It shows in the service and in the food.
You won't find a better pizza in town. They are pretty busy at lunch, but not as busy at dinner.
Enjoy!
Greatest Panini. This place is awesome. The pear and gorgonzola panini is delicious. I crave it all the time. Mondo Caffe is busy during lunch but the service is fast so you don't have to wait too long and you can even call ahead and have your order waiting for you when you get there. It's a great find and can't be beat.
Lively SOMA cafe with hot and cold Italian panini, salads, frittata and daily pasta specials..

The line is out the door every weekday at this popular Italian cafe on Mission Street near the Financial District.
