Recently achieving the SF Chronicles coveted 3- star rating, Ozumo has maintained its status as the Bay Areas chicest, most progressive Japanese restaurant since it first opened in May 2001. Heralded as one of the most exciting, innovative renditions of Japanese cuisine to hit the states, Ozumo offers perfectly executed sushi, tempura and robata grill dishes, the majority of which are best enjoyed family-style. The signature menu includes sake-herb marinated scallops, miso-glazed blackened cod and hand cut Niman Ranch dry-aged rib eye, Gyu, drizzled in a sweet miso-cabernet reduction sauce.…

The Scene – The dining room of this upscale destination has granite walls, blond-wood furniture and a prominent sushi bar, all of which evoke understated Japanese-style luxury. Soft lighting and a gorgeous waterfront view enhance the ambience. The crowd is primarily young Financial District businesspeople. – – The Food – Though celebrated for sushi, the menu extends far beyond snow crab and avocado. Interesting roll combinations and fresh fish make for tasty bites, but for more innovative choices (and better values), look to the Chef Original Dishes or those made on…
Great food but watch your bill
by Andrew Keplinger
Went to Ozumo for dinner while in SF on business. Dinner was very good, but not quite as impressive as Morimoto. Very good sushi, some great dishes.
Ordered the Omakase which they menu says includes Sake pairings. Got the bill and we were charged for each pairing.
The claim was the we misread the menu, that the additional cost for the pairings was impled.
If that is the case, steps need to be taken to make this more clear, since you can't undrink $90 worth of sake.
- Pros: Best course was sushi, excellent sake selection
- Cons: Overcharged us for meal
Sushi + a scene
by clarashih
Great food and crowd, always a good time. I like that there is a fun lounge area in addition to the more brightly lit restaurant area.
- Pros: good sushi and sake, DJ, convenient location
- Cons: can be over the top if you just want a quiet night
