The "ne plus ultra" of San Francisco fine dining. Boulevard manages to be formal... but without all the formality, if you know what I mean. That's very San Francisco!

What incredible thing can you say about Boulevard that hasn't already been said? Fresh off their James Beard win for Most Outstanding Restaurant in the Country, this French-inspired SF institution of California cuisine is still knocking them out of the park. Order ANYTHING on the menu; you will not be disappointed.
Not the best. I eat in Boulevard many times. It was much better in the past then today. A few years ago it was one of the top restaurants in San Francisco, but not any more. The food is good, but not the best. The menu is boring. Service is fine and the atmosphere is good.
2nd favorite in the city.
This is my second favorite restaurant in S.F., my fave is Gary Danko. We've been to Boulevard several times, dinner and lunch and have always loved everything we've had. 4 friends and I went to lunch recently, the table was already set but someone came over and changed our white napkins to black napkins??? After lunch I asked why, she said we all had black pants on and the white linen would have left lint on our pants, now that is service! People who have complained about the service are either so picky or they were there on a bad night, the service has always been outstanding and the place is always packed. We've never felt rushed, the 5 of us were there for almost 3 hours eating and talking. One in our party found a small piece of dirt in her salad, she mentioned it to the waitress and it was taken off her bill and the waitress brought us all truffles on the house.
It's pricey but worth every penny, if you're coming from out of town, book in advance as it's always crowded (no recession in S.F.), the building is beautiful and the decor inside is also beautiful. I highly recommend Boulevard to anyone who enjoys great service, beautiful surroundings and excellent food.
What a romantic night, and what a wonderful dining experience!. My husband and I went to this San Francisco landmark restaurant the other evening to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary and all I can say is.....what a romantic evening! The restaurant is cozy(the lighting is great!) , it wasn't too crowded on the night we were there (perhaps a sign of this awful economy?!) The waiter was gracious and very efficient, the food exceptional and the dessert (yes you have to save room for dessert!) was scrumptious! and what followed later on that evening, well, just use your imagination! ;) Seriously if you are looking for fine dining, a romantic dinner or perhaps to entertain business clients than definitely pay this San Francisco landmark restaurant a visit, you will be very glad you did!
A bit disappointing. We love SF and visit (from Oregon) often. We ate at Boulevard once before a few years ago and it was good but not especially memorable. This trip we decided to try it again since someone in our party who had never been had heard that Boulevard was very well-regarded . We had to make reservations weeks in advance. It seemed like the "hot" place to go. However, we found that the food was quite average and in fact many places here in Portland have much better food. But Boulevard was A LOT more expensive! Far, far better is Fringale, a small French bistro South of Market. We go there often and the food is fantastic, consistent and half the price of Boulevard. Save your money and go to Fringale twice!
good food. food was good. the place was spacious, but tables are too near with each other that it tends to look crowded when they have a lot of guests.tends to be noisy too. i liked the salmon i ordered but my husband didn't like his lamb. service was average. our experience was good but not great with this resto.
DON'T WAST YOUR $$$. This is one of the most overrated restaurants! Please please please do not waste your $ (and you'll waste quite a bit at this overpriced, tasteless restaurant!). I'm not quite sure why others have rated it so high, but let me just say that from start to finish, this meal was horrible. The mojitos were totally watered down--NO alcohol! Once we sat down, the menu looked really good so we decided to order an appetizer.... the pheasant ravioli. Well, this app was $18.50 and we received 3 very small raviolis... pretty pathetic. And it's not like the flavor made up for the small portion in the least! It was horrible! I then ordered the sea bass and my husband ordered the filet mignon. When we received our entrees, we were so unbelievably disappointed. My sea bass was completely flavorless and atop some watered down, bland risotto. Oh, and the fish weighed in at about 4 whole ounces. My husband's $42 filet tasted like top sirloin--chewy and over cooked. Don?t get me wrong, I don't mind small portions if the flavor makes up for it. Needless to say we did not look at the dessert menu. In fact, we got our check, paid the outrageous bill, and went straight to Little Italy in North Beach for some fabulous gnocchi and gelato!!! With so many amazing restaurants in San Francisco, please don't waste your time, money, and taste buds at this horrifically overpriced, bland restaurant!
Nice restaurant. The 6 of us had a very nice meal 2 weeks ago. I don't think the waiting staff is necessarily consistent with the food and wine but still good though. We had 3 bottles of wine but the waiter could not describe any of them sufficiently for the $100 - 120 price per bottle. We drank them anyway and enjoyed 2 of the 3 very much. Would still recommend restaurant and return again.
love it. I love it here and find the food, service and atmosphere reliable and top-notch. Great for dates, out of towners, and girls night.
